{"id":604811,"date":"2026-02-21T02:29:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T02:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/604811\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T02:29:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T02:29:17","slug":"repairs-to-fix-dallas-city-hall-could-cost-up-to-1-1-billion-the-city-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/604811\/","title":{"rendered":"Repairs to fix Dallas City Hall could cost up to $1.1 billion, the city says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A long\u2011awaited city report estimates repairs to Dallas City Hall could cost as much as $1.1\u00a0billion over the next two decades and would require the building to be vacated for at least five years, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>In more than 1,000 pages of reports released Friday evening, city officials detailed structural problems throughout the 47\u2011year\u2011old building, including water intrusion, localized concrete deterioration, and cracking and other failures where City Hall connects to its attached parking garage.  <\/p>\n<p>While &#8220;no evidence of widespread structural instability was observed at the time of the assessment, deficiencies were localized and need to be addressed,&#8221; the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The report highlights hundreds of areas in the building that are not compliant with requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act.\u00a0 Additionally, repairs to the building have been patchwork in nature, the report said, making it necessary to replace the HVAC system and the roof.\u00a0 Features in the building, along with the technology, are obsolete, it says.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/dallas-mayor-consider-moving-city-hall-renowned-architect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">future of the iconic structure has been up for debate since November<\/a>\u00a02025, when some council members questioned whether it was worth spending the then-estimated hundreds of millions to make repairs to the aging building.<\/p>\n<p>Other council members called the decision to abandon the building a rush to judgment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In November,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/dallas-mayor-consider-moving-city-hall-renowned-architect\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mayor Eric Johnson told CBS News Texas <\/a>he wanted to see all the facts before weighing in on what to do.<\/p>\n<p>The building, designed by architect I.M.
