President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to take away comedian Rosie O\u2019Donnell\u2019s U.S. citizenship, something that he cannot legally do, reigniting a decadeslong feud <\/a>between the pair.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of the fact that Rosie O\u2019Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!\u201d Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Constitutionally, the U.S. president doesn\u2019t legally have the power to \u201ctake away\u201d one\u2019s citizenship, as Trump is threatening to do. The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the United States. O\u2019Donnell was born in Commack, New York, according to IMDb.<\/a><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s post on Saturday comes as his administration has sought to revoke birthright citizenship from the children of parents who are not U.S. citizens, but that has stalled in court<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The president has also threatened to \u201clook\u201d <\/a>at whether New York City\u2019s Democratic nominee for mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is in the U.S. illegally. There is no evidence that Mamdani is in the U.S. illegally. Mamdani, who was born in Uganda, became a naturalized citizen in 2018.<\/p>\n

In a post on Instagram later Saturday, O\u2019Donnell responded to Trump\u2019s Truth Social post, writing, \u201chey donald \u2014 you\u2019re rattled again? 18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou call me a threat to humanity \u2014\u2028but I\u2019m everything you fear:\u2028a loud woman\u2028a queer woman\u2028a mother who tells the truth\u2028an american who got out of the country b4 u set it ablaze,\u201d O\u2019Donnell added.<\/p>\n

The Instagram caption did not mention Jeffrey Epstein \u2014 the disgraced financier who died in 2019 after allegations of sex trafficking \u2014 but the photo O\u2019Donnell posted alongside her caption was one of Trump with his arm around Epstein.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration faced criticism from conservative media figures<\/a> this week after claiming that an \u201cexhaustive review\u201d of files related to Epstein turned up no \u201cincriminating client list\u201d belonging to Epstein.<\/p>\n

In her caption, O\u2019Donnell also addressed Trump\u2019s threats to revoke her citizenship, comparing him to the fictional King Joffrey from the popular book series and HBO show \u201cGame of Thrones.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to revoke my citizenship?\u201d O\u2019Donnell wrote.\u2028\u201cGo ahead and try, king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. i\u2019m not yours to silence\u2028i never was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s latest attacks against O\u2019Donnell came after she revealed in a March 2025 TikTok post that<\/a> she had moved to Ireland in January, saying, \u201cWhen it\u2019s safe for all citizens to have equal rights there, in America, that\u2019s when we\u2019ll consider coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that same video, O\u2019Donnell also said she was in the process of getting her Irish citizenship, as she has Irish grandparents. The U.S. allows dual citizenship.<\/p>\n

In March, during a visit to the White House from Irish Prime Minister Miche\u00e1l Martin, Trump addressed O\u2019Donnell\u2019s move to Ireland.<\/p>\n

The U.S. president asked Martin, \u201cWhy in the world would you let Rosie O\u2019Donnell move to Ireland? I think she\u2019s going to lower your happiness levels.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump and O\u2019Donnell have lobbed insults at each other for almost two decades, beginning in 2006<\/a> when O\u2019Donnell, then a co-host of \u201cThe View,\u201d was critical of Trump\u2019s decisions regarding a Miss USA winner.<\/p>\n

The two exchanged jabs for years after that, but the spat drew headlines again when Trump ran for president in 2015.<\/p>\n

He invoked O\u2019Donnell\u2019s name on the debate stage<\/a> in 2015, when he was asked about his use of the terms \u201cfat pigs,\u201d \u201cdogs,\u201d \u201cslobs\u201d and \u201cdisgusting animals\u201d to describe some women.<\/p>\n
