{"id":60794,"date":"2025-07-12T23:28:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T23:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/60794\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T23:28:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T23:28:09","slug":"officials-invite-harris-county-residents-to-participate-in-meetings-evaluating-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/60794\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials invite Harris County residents to participate in meetings evaluating flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Officials in Harris County are encouraging the public to participate in discussions and studies in the aftermath of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Hill_Country_Floods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Hill_Country_Floods\/\">Hill Country floods. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">There will be a series of public scoping meetings this summer hosted by the Harris County Flood Control District for the Solutions for Advancing Floodplain Evaluation and Resilience Study, known as the SAFER Study. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The studies are being conducted in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The studies are aiming to identify large-scale ways to reduce flood risk across the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cFlood risk affects all of us, and your input is essential to shaping effective, community-focused solutions,\u201d a statement from officials read. \u201cWhether you\u2019ve experienced flooding firsthand or just care about the future of our community, this is your opportunity to attend a meeting, submit a comment, or visit our website to take part in this process.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The public meetings will offer an opportunity to learn about the study, ask questions, and share concerns and ideas. Feedback gathered will help guide the study\u2019s focus and future work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In-person meetings will be formatted as open houses, allowing attendees to drop by anytime during open hours. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Visitors can view exhibits, speak one-on-one with study team members, and provide input to guide the effort. To accommodate the diverse community, meeting materials and interpretation services will be available in Spanish, Vietnamese and Mandarin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThe real focus of these meetings is having targeted conversations about what works in certain areas.
