Soon, a playful and energetic lion \u2014 brought to life by a pair of performers under a costume \u2014 approached the kids and \u201cate\u201d their offerings.<\/p>\n<p>This was among the sights in <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/travel\/list\/chinatown-los-angeles-guide-best-things-to-do\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chinatown<\/a> on Saturday, where thousands gathered along Hill and Broadway streets for the Golden Dragon Parade to celebrate Lunar New Year. This  was the 127th edition of the event,  hosted by the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lachinesechamber.org\/events\/2026\/127th-annual-golden-dragon-parade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chinese Chamber of Commerce<\/a> of Los Angeles each year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the more traditional Chinese performances, including lion and dragon dancers, this year\u2019s parade featured marching bands, ballet folkl\u00f3rico dancers and a bagpipe troupe, highlighting the event\u2019s theme: \u201cUnity in the Community.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            <img class=\"image\" alt=\"People dressed in red and holding up red umbrellas watch a parade.\"   width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1771812794_338_.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>         <\/p>\n<p>Felipe Maxie, left, and wife Citali Gomez, center, at the 127th Golden Dragon Parade in Chinatown.<\/p>\n<p>(Genaro Molina \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we\u2019re celebrating the Lunar New Year, we are also celebrating our neighbors,\u201d Mamie Hong Weinberg, parade chair and vice president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of L.A., told <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/2026-los-angeles-golden-dragon-parade-welcome-lunar-new-year-bright-colors-sparkles-chinatown\/18548182\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">KABC.<\/a> \u201cChinatown is not made up of only Chinese people. We have all kinds of nationalities living in Chinatown now, so we wanted to celebrate that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family-friendly event, which celebrated the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/lifestyle\/story\/2026-02-10\/2026-year-of-fire-horse-lunar-new-year-predictions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Year of the Fire Horse<\/a>, attracts visitors from throughout  L.A. For many, attending the parade is an annual tradition, with those who once  went as children now sharing the experience  with their own kids. <\/p>\n<p>The parade is \u201ca beautiful show of unity,\u201d said Lucas Zucker of Ventura. He attended the parade with his family, including his young daughter.
