DOCTORS believe that a case of sepsis which left a woman needing a quadruple amputation was caused by her own dog.<\/p>\n

Manjit Sangha, 56, finally made it home this week after 32 weeks in hospital. <\/p>\n

Manjit spent 32 weeks in hospital after the ordeal \u2013 it is not clear from which dog she may have contracted the diseaseCredit: Gofundme<\/p>\n

She endured a long battle with sepsis, suffered six heart attacks and a bout of pneumonia which left her limbless following a quadruple amputation.<\/a><\/p>\n

Medics think that the sepsis may have been caused by her dog licking a small injury such as a cut or scratch. <\/p>\n

Sepsis is a rare but serious medical condition which is often life threatening. <\/p>\n

The condition can prove fatal as the body\u2019s immune system starts to attack its own tissues and organs rather than fight disease and infection. <\/p>\n

Manjit began feeling unwell after returning from work on Sunday, July 14 last year. <\/p>\n

By the following morning she was unconscious, struggling to breathe and had purple lips and ice cold hands and feet. <\/p>\n

During the former pharmacy worker\u2019s time in intensive care at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton<\/a>, her heart stopped six times. <\/p>\n

Due to the rapid spread of sepsis surgeons had to amputate both her hands and her legs below the knee. <\/p>\n

Manjit also had her spleen removed, battled pneumonia and developed gallstones which mean she may require further surgery and more time in hospital.<\/p>\n

Her husband Kam Sangha, 60, told the BBC: \u201cYou\u2019re thinking \u2018how can this happen in less than 24 hours?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cOne minute on a Saturday she\u2019s playing with the dog, Sunday she\u2019s gone to work, Monday night she\u2019s in a coma,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Kam, a distribution worker at Screwfix, who has not worked for\u00a0seven months in order to be by his wife\u2019s side, said he could not be more proud of her. <\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day was like \u2018she\u2019s going to go today\u2019 but she proved us wrong every single day with what she\u2019s been through.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s so strong\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

As well as working at a pharmacy, Manjit worked weekends with her husband at Screwfix, meaning she often worked seven days a week. <\/p>\n

The couple celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in hospital. <\/p>\n

Manjit explained that she \u201cdidn\u2019t know what was happening\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first month I do not remember anything\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Now they are back home the couple are fundraising for advanced prosthetics including expensive robotic hands. <\/p>\n
