German airline Lufthansa has cancelled all flights to New York and Boston scheduled to take off on Monday due to a blizzard on the US East Coast, a spokesman for the carrier said.<\/p>\n
Flights from New York and Boston to Germany have also been scrapped, he said, adding that so far there have been no cancellations for Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Lufthansa Group also includes SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Italy’s ITA Airways and Brussels Airlines.<\/p>\n
Other carriers including Condor, Singapore Airlines and United have also cancelled flights to and from Frankfurt, Germany’s biggest aviation hub.<\/p>\n
A severe winter storm was heading towards the north-eastern United States on Sunday, with more than 50 centimetres of snow forecast for some areas amid freezing temperatures.<\/p>\n
Severe weather warnings are in place for millions of residents in several states. US media reported, citing meteorologists, that some 35 million residents could be affected.<\/p>\n
