It\u2019s a process that meteorologists call bombogenesis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The &#8220;bomb&#8221; part happens when pressure inside a storm cell falls so quickly that it gives the storm explosive strength. The scientific term &#8220;bombogenesis&#8221; refers to a storm that drops at least 24 millibars of pressure within 24 hours. So the lower the pressure drops within a cyclone, the more intense the storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A <strong>nor\u2019easter<\/strong> is a large, intense area of low pressure that can produce heavy rain, heavy snow, severe coastal flooding or even blizzard conditions in the east. They typically form along the Atlantic coast and move northward or northeastward, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/safety\/winter-noreaster\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:NWS.;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">NWS.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"National Weather Service.
