The Oneworld airline alliance<\/a> has tapped an aviation industry veteran as its next chief executive. <\/p>\n

Ole Orv\u00e9r, a Swedish native, will begin his new role as Oneworld CEO on April 1, the organization announced Monday<\/a>. Orv\u00e9r previously served as chief commercial officer at global carrier Finnair. <\/p>\n

The Fort Worth-based organization was founded in 1999 by four airlines, including American Airlines, which is also headquartered in Cowtown. The alliance now has more than a dozen members<\/a>, including global carriers like British Airways and Cathay Pacific. <\/p>\n

Orv\u00e9r succeeds former Oneworld CEO Nat Pieper, who left the alliance late last year to become American Airlines\u2019 new chief commercial officer<\/a>. American operates its central hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oneworld said Orv\u00e9r transformed Finnair\u2019s \u201ccommercial and network strategy and introduced major new revenue and loyalty initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orv\u00e9r in a statement said he was honored to join the alliance \u201cat a pivotal moment for global travel.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with our member airlines, we will continue the work to showcase the world\u2019s premium alliance, elevate the customer journey, and unlock new tools and technology,\u201d said Orv\u00e9r. <\/p>\n

Prior to his role at Finnair, Orv\u00e9r held leadership roles at Qatar Airways, Air Berlin and more. He earned an economics degree from Mid Sweden University and has a certification from the Strategic Thinking and Leadership Growth Program at the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Wharton School. <\/p>\n

American CEO Robert Isom<\/a>, who also is the incumbent chairman of Oneworld\u2019s governing board, spoke highly of the organization\u2019s incoming chief.<\/p>\n
