<\/p>\nYou know it, we know it, everyone knows it \u2014 this winter has been especially snowy. <\/p>\n
This week’s blizzard was the second major snow event to hit the region this winter and drop more than a foot. It’s not just recency bias, this winter has seen more snow than we usually get. Almost double. <\/p>\n
Storm Team 4 took a look at the data and so far this season we’ve measured 42 inches of snow at Central Park. Well, it turns out that’s almost double a “normal” winter (22.9 inches). And it’s more than triple what we saw in 2025 (12.9 inches). <\/p>\n

Forty-two inches, that’s got to be a record, right? Somehow it’s not even close. <\/p>\n
The city would still need to see nearly 20 more inches this season to crack the top 5 all-time snowiest winters. The last winter to crack the top of the charts was in 2011. <\/p>\n
Our snowiest winter on record came 30 years ago. You may have already guessed it: the winter of the Blizzard of ’96. Anyone around during that winter had to shovel through more than 75 inches of snow. <\/p>\n

Now, the winter of 2026 isn’t over quite yet, and neither are our snow chances. <\/p>\n
The next snow is only hours away. We’re looking at another 1 to 3 inches of snow Tuesday night. And that’s not all. <\/p>\n
There’s a strong low front headed our way Thursday into Thursday night that could bring more wintry precipitation, mainly light snow or a wintry mix. <\/p>\n
Once we get past this stretch, it’s sunny and mild into the weekend, with considerable melting through Sunday.<\/p>\n
