PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Unusually warm weather<\/a> caught many Valley visitors off guard Wednesday, with temperatures climbing close to 90 degrees \u2014 surprising fans at spring training games and hikers on Phoenix trails.<\/p>\n

Everyone in the stands at American Family Fields of Phoenix<\/a> was hit with an unexpected wave of warm weather as the temperature climbed to 88 degrees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not expecting it to be this hot,\u201d said baseball fan Sheri Conley.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re moving to the shade \u2014 that\u2019s how it feels out here. We\u2019re literally going, \u2018I can take some heat,\u2019 but it\u2019s cooking,\u201d said another fan, Michael Tarentino.<\/p>\n

Not all visitors were bothered. Erin and Marty Corey, visiting from Milwaukee, said the heat was a welcome change.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re from Wisconsin \u2014 we don\u2019t mind heat at all, this is wonderful,\u201d Erin said. \u201cIt\u2019 s very cold at home. This is much better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Near-record-breaking temperatures did not keep hikers away from Piestewa Peak in Phoenix, but many said they noticed the unusual warmth within minutes of hitting the trail.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just got to know your body, honestly. I take a break every 15 minutes, quick sips, sit down and then continue. I didn\u2019t make it to the top \u2014 it was already too hot for me,\u201d said hiker Joshua Nascimental.<\/p>\n

Hikers Sally Dominguez and Amber Hannappel said the heat was immediately noticeable. \u201cWe could tell two minutes into the hike today it was definitely hotter,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

First responders said anyone spending time outside should stay hydrated and know the warning signs of heat-related illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat might mean nausea, rapid heart rate, dizziness \u2014 those signs mean you need to turn around and change the environment where you are at, or start calling 911 to get help,\u201d said Phoenix Fire Department Captain DJ Lee.<\/p>\n

Lee said it\u2019s important to drink lots of water if you know you will be outside the next day.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also important to wear proper clothing and make sure your phone is charged when going out on a hike. <\/p>\n
