{"id":616831,"date":"2026-02-26T05:52:33","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T05:52:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/616831\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T05:52:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T05:52:33","slug":"ktla-layoffs-hit-local-tv-news-hosts-mark-kriski-lu-parker-and-glen-walker-daily-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/616831\/","title":{"rendered":"KTLA layoffs hit local TV news hosts Mark Kriski, Lu Parker and Glen Walker \u2013 Daily News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three longtime <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2024\/05\/10\/sam-rubin-who-died-friday-at-64-felt-like-a-fun-loving-friend-on-the-ktla-5-morning-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KTLA<\/a> on-air personalities were laid off on Wednesday as part of a wave of job cuts at television stations owned by Nexstar in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2024\/05\/29\/ktla-veteran-weatherman-mark-kriski-suffers-mild-stroke\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meteorologist Mark Kriski<\/a> had been at KTLA since 1991 as the weekday morning news weathercaster. He was the original meteorologist when the station created \u201cThe KTLA Morning News\u201d in July 1991.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/20120702\/la-mayor-antonio-villaraigosa-lu-parker-end-their-relationship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lu Parker<\/a> and Glen Walker, who\u2019d worked at the station since 2005 and 2010, most recently as midday news anchors, were also among the well-known journalists cut on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mng-gallery-initialized mng-gallery-slider\">\n<li data-index=\"1\" class=\"mng-ge mng-gallery-active\" id=\"mng-ge-0\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"KTLA news anchor Lu Parker is seen here during the...\" class=\"size-article_inline\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LDN-L-KTLACUTS-0226-01.jpg\"\/>\n<p>KTLA news anchor Lu Parker is seen here during the 73rd Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards at the Television Academy Plaza in North Hollywood on Saturday, July 24, 2021. (Photo by Danny Moloshok\/Invision for The Television Academy\/AP Images)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their departures were first reported by the online publication <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscaststudio.com\/2026\/02\/25\/ktla-wpix-layoffs-226\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NewscastStudio.com<\/a>. The names of two other KTLA reporters who are said to have also been laid off could not be immediately confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Nexstar did not comment directly on the KTLA cuts, saying in a written statement that the company \u201cdoes not comment on personnel issues, but \u2026 is taking steps necessary to compete effectively in this period of unprecedented change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans of the three newscast veterans were dismayed by the news that quickly flowed onto social media channels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally sad news,\u201d viewer Ted Ziegenbusch wrote on a Facebook post about the layoffs. \u201cAll were great veteran reporters and liked by so many viewers. This comes as quite a shock. \u201cNow what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo layoff an L.A. icon like Kriski, who came back after A STROKE is beyond disrespectful,\u201d wrote @rduran on X. \u201cThe man earned a proper farewell &amp; retirement. This is a dark day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis breaks my heart,\u201d Kathy Valentino commented on a Facebook post. \u201cI worked at KTLA for many years back in the day, and it was such a wonderful place to work. Employees were really taken care of.
