The activists on the scene were also pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/melissa-barrera\/\" id=\"auto-tag_melissa-barrera\" data-tag=\"melissa-barrera\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Melissa Barrera<\/a>, the actress who has been vocal in her support for Palestine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn November 2023, Spyglass Media Group slashed Barrera from reprising her role in the seventh installment of the film after she expressed support for Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war. The production company behind the film said in a statement that they had <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/11\/melissa-barrera-scream-7-dropped-1235633176\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201czero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form\u201d<\/a> and dropped her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tShortly after, Barrera\u2019s co-star Jenna Ortega <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/11\/jenna-ortega-scream-departure-melissa-barrera-wednesday-1235634200\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dropped out of Scream VII<\/a> and left the franchise in limbo. Original <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/scream-7\/\" id=\"auto-tag_scream-7\" data-tag=\"scream-7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scream 7<\/a> director, Christopher Landon, also <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/12\/scream-7-director-christopher-landon-exits-1235681432\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exited the project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDespite all the exits, Spyglass continued the project and tapped Kevin Williamson to direct the franchise he helped create, having written the original 1996 film directed by Wes Craven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tScream 7 is set to open on February 27, 2026, with Neve Campbell also aboard to reprise her role of Sydney Prescott and a script from Guy Busick. Courteney Cox is also <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/12\/scream-7-courteney-cox-returning-gale-weathers-1236215198\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">set to reprise her role<\/a> of Gale Weathers from the original slasher film. Mason Gooding will reprise his role of Chad Meeks-Martin.
