Enjoying immense success, the California surf-pop group released hits like \u201cSurfin\u2019 USA\u201d and \u201cI Get Around.\u201d Sadly, Brian Wilson <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/brian-wilson-beach-boys-co-founder-and-musical-pioneer-dead-at-82\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died on June 11, 2025<\/a>, of respiratory failure at age 82. As he mourns his cousin and bandmate, Mike Love recently opened up about the last time the pair harmonized together.<\/p>\n<p>            The Beach Boys\u2019 Mike Love Remembers His Cousin<\/p>\n<p>Suffering from dementia following wife Melinda Ledbetter\u2019s death, a Los Angeles judge placed Brian Wilson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/05\/10\/1250514058\/brian-wilson-beach-boys-conservatorship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under a conservatorship<\/a> in May 2024. Mike Love, his cousin and Beach Boys bandmate, still visited him frequently. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/celebrity-news\/2080810\/beach-boys-mike-love-brian-wilson\/amp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a recent interview<\/a> with The Daily Express, the 84-year-old Grammy winner said that Wilson\u2019s love for music stayed strong to the very end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was able to visit Brian three weeks before he passed,\u201d Love said. \u201cWhat Brian wanted me to do was to sing for him.<\/p>\n<p>First, Wilson requested The Beach Boys\u2019 1964 song \u201cFun, Fun, Fun,\u201d which his cousin obliged. Next, he wanted \u201cSurfin\u2019 USA.\u201d Once Love had sung that and \u201cI Get Around,\u201d the cousins harmonized on a song called \u201cTheir Hearts Were Full Of Spring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a song by The Four Freshmen, a group which was a huge influence on The Beach Boys\u2019 harmonies,\u201d Love said.<\/p>\n<p>With a smile, he continued, \u201cBrian had trouble forming a sentence. But he had no problem asking me to sing, and he had no problem with that harmony. It was a very sweet moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/three-generations-of-brian-wilsons-family-honor-to-late-singer-during-tribute-charity-concert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[RELATED: Three Generations of Brian Wilson\u2019s Family Honor Late Singer During Beach Boys Tribute Concert]<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mike Love Pays Tribute to the \u201cHeart and Soul\u201d of Band<\/p>\n<p>After news broke of The Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson\u2019s death on June 11, Mike Love penned a tender tribute to his cousin and bandmate on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music,\u201d Love wrote. \u201cBrian Wilson wasn\u2019t just the heart of The Beach Boys\u2014he was the soul of our sound. From the first time we sang together as kids in my living room, I knew there was something otherworldly in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cMay you rest in the peace you so deeply deserve, surrounded by the heavenly music you helped create. May your spirit soar as high as your falsetto, may your wings spread in effortless flight.
