\n\tAs Sidney Prescott faces off against another Ghostface in Scream<\/a> 7, premiering in theaters Friday, the slasher franchise is facing a fan-led boycott.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring Wednesday\u2019s world premiere of the Kevin Williamson<\/a>-helmed horror, the director spoke to Deadline about the \u201cFree Palestine\u201d protest<\/a> amid fallout from Melissa Barrera<\/a>\u2018s 2023\u00a0firing from the franchise, which has\u00a0sparked a boycott\u00a0of the latest installment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe live in America,\u201d the filmmaker told us during the premiere. \u201cWe have the right to protest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWilliamson continued, \u201cThey have the right to be heard, and they have a right to speak to what your truth is, and I support that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe protest was led by members of Entertainment Labor for Palestine<\/a>, CodePink LA and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles, meant to call attention \u201cto the industry\u2019s widespread silencing of pro-Palestinian voices and its whitewashing of Israel\u2019s ongoing genocide in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter the first trailer<\/a> for Scream 7<\/a> was released in October, fans quickly began slamming the movie on social media, calling for a boycott<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpyglass fired Barrera<\/a> in November 2023 over her social media posts on the Israel-Hamas<\/a> conflict and the \u201catrocities being committed against Palestinians,\u201d explaining the company has \u201czero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing her ousting, Jenna Ortega also exited the franchise<\/a>, later noting that the sequel \u201cwas all kind of falling apart<\/a>\u201d without Barrera to play its new \u2018final girl\u2019 Sam Carpenter. Director Christopher Landon dropped out of the project<\/a> as well, citing \u201chighly aggressive and really scary\u201d death threats targeting his children<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tCampbell was then brought back to reprise her role<\/a> as OG \u201cfinal girl\u201d Sidney Campbell in March 2024, with original Scream (1996) writer Williamson on board to direct. She previously sat out Scream VI (2023)<\/a> over the low offered pay.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Scream 7, Sidney Prescott (Campbell) has built a quiet life for herself and her family, including husband Mark (Joel McHale) and daughter Tatum (Isabel May). But when a new Ghostface comes calling, she has to go back into survivor mode to save her daughter, who is the killer\u2019s next target.<\/p>\n
