ABC7<\/p>\n<p>EMS rushed the injured workers to a local hospital. A 47-year-old man was pronounced dead, and a 40-year-old man is in critical, but stable condition, police said. <\/p>\n<p>The alarming incident unfolded at a two-story building that was under a permit for foundation work to increase the building\u2019s height, the NYC Department of Buildings said.<\/p>\n<p>While the men were removing debris to begin foundation work, rubble from the adjacent building\u2019s foundation collapsed on top of them, according to the DOB. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:2.18803419;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38619573\" width=\"1024\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1-man-dead-another-critically-122322510.jpg\" alt=\"Overhead view of a trench collapse at a NYC construction site.\" class=\"wp-image-38619573\"  \/>A portion of the neighboring building\u2019s foundation had collapsed, injuring the two workers, investigators said.
