At the 2024 Governors Awards<\/a>, John Mulaney<\/a> claimed to have filmed a self-tape for Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/a>\u2019s The Bride! \u201cLadies and gentlemen, you\u2019re looking at me and you\u2019re thinking \u2018Oh, great. Another goddamn stand-up comedian here to make fun of us at our sacred rituals.\u2019 Well I\u2019ll have you know I\u2019m not such an outsider,\u201d he said during the show\u2019s opening monologue. \u201cI am quite sought after in the film world. I would like to share with you a real email that I got from my agents about 30 days ago.\u201d He then read an email asking him to self-tape for \u201cYoung Cop\u201d in an untitled Maggie Gyllenhaal project. We now know that project is The Bride! And Gyllenhaal says she never got that tape. ScreenRant asked the director herself. \u201cNo, I didn\u2019t,\u201d she replied. \u201cAnd I would love to see his tape if he\u2019d like to send it to me now.\u201d<\/p>\n Mulaney\u2019s bit did have an effect on The Bride! and the man formerly known as Young Cop. \u201cI gave him a name after I watched that incredible fucking super funny thing that John Mulaney did,\u201d Gyllenhaal said. \u201cI named him Officer Goodman.\u201d Louis Cancelmi of Sorry, Baby fame wound up getting the now-named part. \u201cHe\u2019s brilliant,\u201d Bride! star Jessie Buckley said.
