The cause of death of Robert Carradine has been confirmed following his passing earlier this week<\/a> at the age of 71 on Monday, Feb. 23.<\/p>\n

According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner\u2019s Office, the actor death has been ruled a suicide. The cause of death was listed as sequelae of anoxic brain injury, which occurs<\/a> when oxygen is cut off completely from the brain.<\/p>\n

Carradine was best known for starring in the Eighties cult classic\u00a0Revenge of the Nerds\u00a0and later, found a new generation of fans in the early 2000s with\u00a0Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away,\u201d read a previous statement from Carradine\u2019s family. \u201cIn a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby\u2019s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following news of his death, the actor\u2019s\u00a0Lizzie McGuire\u00a0co-stars and other Hollywood peers remembered his legacy<\/a> in heartfelt tributes. Hilary Duff<\/a>,\u00a0who starred as the titular character Lizzie, shared Instagram photos of her and Carradine, who played her father Sam McGuire. In a caption, Duff wrote: \u201cThis one hurts. It\u2019s really hard to face this reality about an old friend. There was so much warmth in the McGuire family and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I\u2019ll be forever grateful for that. I\u2019m deeply sad to learn Bobby was suffering. My heart aches for him , his family, and everyone who loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n
