{"id":622497,"date":"2026-02-28T14:53:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T14:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/622497\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T14:53:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T14:53:13","slug":"joey-aguilar-reacts-to-losing-eligibility-lawsuit-against-the-ncaa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/622497\/","title":{"rendered":"Joey Aguilar reacts to losing eligibility lawsuit against the NCAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/joey-aguilar-62716\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joey Aguilar<\/a><\/strong> described the transition as both \u201cquick\u201d and \u201csuper fast.\u201d In a matter of days he went from a courtroom looking for another year of eligibility as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/tennessee-volunteers\/category\/basketball\/news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tennessee football\u2019s<\/a> quarterback to starting his journey toward the NFL.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar, who was granted a temporary restraining order in his lawsuit against the NCAA, was denied a preliminary injunction on Friday, one that would\u2019ve given him another year with the Vols.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By Tuesday he was in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, moving on to what\u2019s next in his football career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked God for an answer,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lucaspanzica\/status\/2027418539586728339?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Aguilar told reporters on Friday<\/a>, \u201cand He gave me that. So I was prepared to take either step, whether that was to go back to Tennessee or continue my career and pursue the NFL. So I was ready. I\u2019m excited for this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joey Aguilar filed lawsuit against NCAA for another year of eligibility<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar threw for 3,565 yards and 24 touchdowns in 13 games as Tennessee\u2019s starting quarterback.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His lawsuit against the NCAA argued that he should have another season of eligibility after playing three seasons of Division I football. He spent two seasons at Appalachian State before transferring to Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar played junior college football before transferring up to Appalachian State, where he threw for 6,760 yards, 56 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in two seasons with the Mountaineers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything happens for a reason,\u201d Aguilar said on Friday. \u201cThey granted me a TRO, so I was out there practicing like I was coming back. Then the judge declined my request. It is what it is. Like I said, I\u2019m excited to pursue this next chapter of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar was previously one of 26 plaintiffs that were added to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/diego-pavia-36926\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Diego Pavia<\/a>\u00a0lawsuit, which last year won the Vanderbilt quarterback another season of eligibility because of his JUCO past.<\/p>\n<p>He was granted voluntary dismissal from the Pavia suit, then hired his own representation before taking the lawsuit to Knox County Court on February 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I finally got the answer that I was waiting for\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar told reporters he is currently finishing up shoulder rehab, after having surgery in early January to remove a benign tumor that was pushing on his bicep and labrum, forcing him to play through pain late last season.<\/p>\n<p>NFL Network\u2019s <strong>Ian Rapoport<\/strong> reported on January 2 that full recovery was expected to take eight weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar said the focus now is getting healthy and earning his next opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaiting around gets a little stressful,\u201d Aguilar said, \u201cbut I finally got the answer that I was waiting for. And that\u2019s to pursue the NFL now.
