TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The U.S. Open is set to return to Toledo in what Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz is calling one of the biggest wins for the city in years.<\/p>\n
Toledo\u2019s own Inverness Club is slated to host the U.S. Open in 2045.<\/p>\n
Kapszukiewicz said in a statement that he\u2019s in New York City on Saturday for the announcement. He said the economic impact for the region when the biggest event in golf comes to Toledo is staggering, but he\u2019s most excited for what this decision says about the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor years the perception has been that while Inverness is a course more than worthy of hosting a U.S. Open, the Toledo market wasn\u2019t strong or dynamic enough to earn the honor. Today\u2019s announcement dispels that myth once and for all,\u201d Mayor Kapszukiewicz said. \u201cThe USGA would not have selected Inverness to host the sport\u2019s biggest championship if it didn\u2019t think Toledo was up to the challenge. Toledoans have always known how special our city is; today\u2019s announcement is more proof that the rest of the world sees our positive momentum too.\u201d<\/p>\n
