Israel\u2019s N12 News is reporting that the Israeli government believes that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei\u00a0<\/strong>is dead.<\/p>\n A translated version of an N12 update<\/a> from Saturday morning citing a senior Israeli official suggests that the Israelis have assessed that Khamenei is \u201cno longer with us\u201d after the United States and Israel launched a joint operation<\/a> against the Iranian regime overnight.<\/p>\n Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi<\/strong>, meanwhile, told NBC News in a Saturday morning interview that he believes both Khamenei and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/strong> are still alive.<\/p>\n \u201cAs far as I know, yes, they are alive,\u201d Araghchi said after being asked directly about their status.<\/p>\n \u201cAlmost all officials are safe, and sound, and alive. We may have lost one or two commanders, but that is not a big problem,\u201d insisted Araghchi.<\/p>\n Reuters has reported<\/a> that\u00a0both Iran\u2019s defense minister and the commander of its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have been eliminated.<\/p>\n And Axios\u2019s Barak Ravid<\/strong> quoted<\/a> an IDF official who told him that \u201cThree sites where gatherings of the Iranian regime were taking place were struck simultaneously, and several senior figures essential to the management of the campaign and the regime\u2019s governance were eliminated.\u201d<\/p>\n President Donald Trump<\/strong> announced that the United States had begun \u201cmajor combat operations in Iran\u201d in a video statement released on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n \u201cOur objective is to defend the the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people,\u201d said Trump before calling on the Iranian people to \u201ctake over\u201d their government once the United States concludes its operations.<\/p>\n \u201cAmerica is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force,\u201d he promised.<\/p>\n Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong>, meanwhile, said that \u201cOur joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands.
