To win in the first 15 minutes, we need to give them nothing to think about. The message was how we win the next 15 minutes is to keep the game at zero. If we score, we score.\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0setting a mentality in this locker room that we\u00a0have to\u00a0be a good defending team. Everybody loves to attack in that locker room. I need to make sure they concentrated on the defending,\u00a0because\u00a0the attacking side, they all want to do that.\u00a0I think you\u00a0put teams away by making sure they get nothing, they build no momentum, they have nothing they can believe in as the game progresses.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0how you bury\u00a0them ultimately.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Jakob Glesnes tonight:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe&#8217;s an excellent defender. The\u00a0combination\u00a0with him and Maya are very predictable in\u00a0experienced, in a good game reading kind of way.\u00a0They know what\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0going to do in\u00a0a\u00a0situation.\u00a0They&#8217;re\u00a0comfortable.\u00a0Sometimes\u00a0I think our back line\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0cover enough ground and pick up enough guys,\u00a0maybe\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0past. Now I feel like they have their spacing\u00a0right,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0getting across the line quicker, which helps our midfield.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But his individual defending, his timing, his reading of plays, his aggressiveness at the right moments.\u00a0He brings another level of good solid defensive\u00a0center back\u00a0play for us, which is\u00a0really important.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0Klauss and what he\u00a0has brought to the team:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe sets the tone. Adam [Waterson]\u00a0is\u00a0probably annoyed\u00a0with me, dealing with me on the\u00a0sideline. It was great to get back out there\u00a0and\u00a0like you said, play with Lucas, Eddie in the middle, get the first minutes back under my belt.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0a kinship between him and Lucas\u00a0Sanabria:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is\u00a0definitely a\u00a0kinship there. We\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0always communicate with each other, but we speak in a\u00a0Spanglish\u00a0I guess. We do a lot of work together with Nick [Theslof]\u00a0after training. We play the same\u00a0position\u00a0we\u00a0do a lot of\u00a0turning work or tactical work after training together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>LA Galaxy Defender Maya Yoshida<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0how the defense seems to have turned a corner from last year:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think for two reasons; one, the players who played with us last year already understand how we play and how we like to try to dominate the game. Like Elijah [Wynder],\u00a0and\u00a0Lucas [Sanabria].\u00a0Even\u00a0the\u00a0younger\u00a0players understand\u00a0how\u00a0we want to play.\u00a0Second\u00a0is\u00a0Justin\u00a0[Haak] and\u00a0Jakob\u00a0[Glesnes] who\u00a0already\u00a0know\u00a0MLS and already\u00a0have\u00a0more than good enough\u00a0experience\u00a0here, so they adapt very quickly.\u00a0Still,\u00a0we need to improve many things and\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0too early to talk about\u00a0these kinds of things\u00a0after\u00a0four games.\u00a0I feel good so far.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0progressed since\u00a0last\u00a0season,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0my feeling.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0Jo\u00e3o Klauss as a\u00a0player and\u00a0teammate:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKlauss is\u00a0a\u00a0very\u00a0good, experienced\u00a0player\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0very\u00a0team player as well.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0helping\u00a0Nasci\u00a0[Matheus Nascimento]\u00a0in the back a little bit. Always every team for the\u00a0strikers\u00a0first goal is\u00a0very difficult. He already\u00a0score\u00a0three, and this is\u00a0good\u00a0start. I hope he can continue like that.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0we\u00a0missing\u00a0last year a lot.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0his individual progress since last season and in the offseason:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndividually, offseason straight after the season finish last year, I try to change things, nutrition, training, recovery stuff. Especially like two days in between, like today since\u00a0last\u00a0game, so I need to perform well; I\u00a0have to\u00a0be sharp. So\u00a0far\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0working. But again, this is still February. MLS is\u00a0very\u00a0long\u00a0season, especially including traveling and Concacaf, so the main object for me to go through the season is just keep my quality\u00a0but the conditioning is more important, especially my age.\u00a0We&#8217;ll\u00a0see.
