THE NEIGHBORHOOD \u2013 Have you ever tried to get rid of a raccoon? It’s no easy task, let me tell you.<\/p>\n

Several years ago, we had some raccoons decide to set up shop in our chimney. We’d hear them squealing and scratching around in there nearly 24 hours a day. It was almost as though the raccoon parents assigned some of their kids to be on constant “chaos duty” while the others looked for food or slept.<\/p>\n

I love animals and had no interest in displacing a family, but ultimately decided it was necessary after several weeks of poor sleep due to the racket. The good news is that I was very careful and no raccoons were harmed in the eviction process.<\/p>\n

How did I do it? With a proprietary system that leveraged bait, party favors, classical music, two-way mirrors, walkie-talkies and roller skates. Took me four days to complete the task.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the man in this video<\/a> didn’t consult me before he tried to get rid of the raccoons in his backyard treehouse. I could’ve given him all kinds of tips. Instead, things went from bad to worse.<\/p>\n

Yikes. I have so many questions. But more than that, I’ve got empathy. I know that raccoons are tenacious. And I know that they can drive a man to do crazy things.<\/p>\n

Miraculously, these folks seemed to keep their sense of humor about the whole thing. Not many of us would likely be smiling if we had firefighters in our backyard battling a blaze that we’d created.<\/p>\n

Curse those raccoons. Curse them.<\/p>\n
