Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The former governor is going to unveil his independent candidate bid this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/andrew-cuomo-to-run-as-independent-in-nyc-mayors-race-with-a-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">sources told NewsNation<\/a> \u2014 but there is a catch.<\/p>\n<p>After his announcement, Cuomo is going to ask all of the candidates \u2014 except for socialist Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/24\/us-news\/andrew-cuomo-concedes-as-zohran-mamdani-wins-nyc-mayoral-primary-in-stunning-upset\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nominee Zohran Mamdani<\/a> \u2014 to vow to drop out of the race come mid-September if they are not in the lead, himself included, a source close to the candidate told NewsNation.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo lost the Democratic primary to Zohran Mamdani by a significant margin.<\/p>\n<p>The Post has reached out to Cuomo\u2019s campaign for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The decision comes despite polls showing the former governor trailing Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>Current Mayor Eric Adams is in fourth with a 11%, according to a recent survey. Paul Martinka<\/p>\n<p>The latest survey from from political consulting firm Slingshot Strategies has Mamdani comfortable leading with 35% of the vote, followed by Cuomo on 25%, Republican Curtis Sliwa in third with 14%, and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/07\/us-news\/adams-serves-up-cold-truth-after-cuomo-pushes-him-to-drop-re-election-bid\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Adams in fourth <\/a>with a paltry 11%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Not Cuoing anywhere.
