{"id":62744,"date":"2025-07-13T17:20:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T17:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/62744\/"},"modified":"2025-07-13T17:20:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T17:20:16","slug":"katherine-ferruzzo-of-houston-remembered-for-dedication-to-children-houston-public-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/62744\/","title":{"rendered":"Katherine Ferruzzo of Houston remembered for dedication to children \u2013 Houston Public Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Katherine Ferruzzo remembered in a memorial on Water Street in Kerrville, Texas for the victims of the July 4, 2025 flood.<\/p>\n<p>Sign up for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.tpr.org\/a\/tpr-newsletter-signup\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"Link\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">TPR Today<\/a>, Texas Public Radio\u2019s newsletter that brings our top stories to your inbox each morning.<\/p>\n<p>The remains of the last missing counselor from Camp Mystic have been recovered.<\/p>\n<p>Katherine Ferruzzo, 19, died in the July 4 floods along with at least 28 others from the all-girls camp on the Guadalupe River.<\/p>\n<p>Ferruzzo was a recent graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, where she was known for her volunteer efforts to help children with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>She had planned to attend the University of Texas at Austin and eventually become a special education teacher.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Ferruzzo family said Katherine\u2019s body was found on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly grateful to all the search and rescue professionals and volunteers who have remained steadfast in their efforts to locate the victims of this tragedy,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/news\/local\/2025\/07\/07\/525793\/houston-area-residents-among-dead-missing-in-catastrophic-central-texas-floods\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston-area residents among dead, missing in catastrophic Central Texas floods<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Her picture is now part of a growing makeshift memorial on Kerrville\u2019s Water Street, located a few hundred feet away from the river.<\/p>\n<p>The family said it plans to launch a foundation in Katherine\u2019s name, dedicated to helping those with special needs and learning differences.
