Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream endured a tough 99\u201382 defeat at the hands of Caitlin Clark\u2019s Indiana Fever on Friday. Despite the loss, Griner put forth a good individual effort, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks across 26 minutes of play.<\/p>\n

The Dream led by five at halftime but were overrun in the second half by Indiana\u2019s dominant shooting and defensive adjustments.<\/p>\n

Off the court, Griner was focused on celebrating a milestone in her personal life. Her son, Bash, turned one year old on July 8. Atlanta Dream posted on X<\/a>, \u201cBorn to be a star \ud83e\udd29 Happy Birthday Bash!\u201d tagging Griner and highlighting the joy Bash brings to the organization.<\/p>\n

Though the WNBA star smiled at the tribute, she hadn\u2019t yet shared her own message\u2013until Sunday.<\/p>\n

Griner and her wife, Cherelle, hosted a backyard gathering complete with blue and white balloons and a similarly themed cake to mark Bash\u2019s first birthday.<\/p>\n

She took to social media to unveil a carousel of intimate family snapshots, writing, \u201c1\ufe0f\u20e3 whole year of Bash \ud83e\udd95\ud83e\udd4f\ud83d\udc33\ud83d\udc54 \u2026 I love you son \ud83d\udc51\u2026 Know i\u2019m 10 toes down behind you, always! The world is yours my young King \ud83e\udd34\ud83c\udffd\u201d alongside candid moments of Bash exploring his cake, and the couple sharing moments.<\/p>\n

“Happy Birthday baby boy! I love you so much it hurts \ud83d\ude29\ud83e\udd79\ud83d\ude05” Cherelle wrote under the post.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Dream guard Rhyne Howard and others were also present in the scene. Family is the most important aspect of Griner’s life. She shares a special bond with Cherelle after her rigorous and successful campaign to bring Griner back from detention in Russia.<\/p>\n

Griner shared that those months were the toughest time in her life and her wife was her light at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n
