This week, as I am at around this time every year, I\u2019ve been obsessed with the annual Summer Games Done Quick<\/strong> speedrunning marathon<\/a>. If you\u2019ve never watched, the event is an annual, weeklong, always-on livestream of people playing video games at an extremely high level to raise money for charity. Throughout the week, I\u2019ll tune in when I have a moment and then find myself watching somebody obliterate a beloved classic or a game that I\u2019ve never heard of.<\/p>\n The show, which you can watch for free on Twitch<\/a>, typically ends very early in the morning on Sunday, and you can watch replays on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel<\/a>. My two favorite runs so far have been a Beat Saber<\/strong> showcase<\/a> and a nail-biter Cuphead<\/strong> race<\/a>. He was the developer of the beloved Apollo for Reddit iOS app, but he became a central figure of the protests because Reddit\u2019s API changes were going to be so cost-prohibitive that they forced him to shut Apollo down.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve gotten to know Selig, and nowadays, he works on an app called Pixel Pals<\/strong><\/a>, is an advisor to the new Digg<\/strong><\/a>, and recently posted a great PC build video<\/a> that has more than 2.5 million views. (Yes, he does poke fun at another, let\u2019s say, infamous PC build video.) I got to catch up with him to learn about his homescreen and what he\u2019s into.<\/p>\n Image: Christian Selig<\/p>\n The phone:<\/strong> iPhone 15 Pro Blue Titanium 128 GB<\/p>\n The wallpaper:<\/strong> I\u2019m pretty sure it\u2019s just something random someone posted on Twitter ages ago that I saved. But I love how simple it is, and I love how it looks on the home screen with the default iOS blur applied. <\/p>\n The apps:<\/strong> I try to keep things simple and positioned in an easy-to-reach area. I don\u2019t keep social media apps on my phone in an attempt to be healthier, so it\u2019s mostly things that are useful: vehicle apps (still a bit cold in Canada, so gotta love being able to preheat your vehicle), with Overcast<\/strong><\/a> for podcasts, Microsoft To Do<\/strong><\/a> (n\u00e9e Wunderlist) for my to-dos, ChatGPT<\/strong><\/a> because it\u2019s 2025, YouTube<\/strong><\/a> because I spend way too much time there, Pixel Pals<\/strong><\/a> because it\u2019s an app I build so I like to have it nice and handy, the Chess.com app<\/strong><\/a> for passing some time, and the alpha for Digg<\/strong>, which has been a ton of fun to use.<\/p>\n I also asked Christian to share a few things he\u2019s into right now:<\/p>\n And about his role at Digg:<\/p>\n Here\u2019s what the Installer community is into this week. My favorites are Card Thief<\/strong><\/a>, Geo Gods<\/strong><\/a>, and Miracle Merchant<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d \u2014 Nick<\/p>\n \u201cI use Panic\u2019s Nova<\/strong><\/a> to make websites and truly love it. Probably my favorite app. Mimestream<\/strong><\/a> is also fantastic! Can\u2019t wait for the iPhone version.\u201d \u2014 Jeanne<\/p>\n \u201cMy favorite non-famous app is Live Soccer TV<\/strong><\/a>. Shows you the complete worldwide soccer schedule, and the list of broadcast networks\/platforms in each county airing the game. Been on my home screen for ages now. It simply does what it says it does. No fluff and for 5 dollars a year, I pay for the ad free upgrade. Perfect app. Hope it never changes.\u201d \u2014 Dustin<\/p>\n \u201cObsidian<\/strong><\/a> and Anybox<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d \u2014 Peter<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m constantly shocked whenever recommendations come up for recipe apps that Crouton<\/strong><\/a> is not mentioned. To me, if Apple were to have made a recipe app themselves, this would be it. Even better, it\u2019s cheap \u2014 only $14.99\/yr and has some incredibly cool features like \u2018hands free\u2019 mode that allows you to simply blink your eyes to move to the next step of a recipe for those times when you have chicken juice all over your fingers.\u201d \u2014 Justin<\/p>\n \u201cAll of Claire North\u2019s books are fantastic! Her stuff is super original: sci-fi-ish but more about big ideas like time, memory, and identity. She does a really good job of bringing out the nuances and real-life feelings and consequences of the roles her characters have. It\u2019s smart and emotional without being heavy, and her characters always stick with me. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August<\/strong><\/a> or Touch<\/strong><\/a> are great places to start.\u201d \u2014 Dave<\/p>\n \u201cI know it\u2019s been out for a while, but my whole family is addicted to Marvel Snap<\/strong><\/a>. The new season with The Fantastic Four is really fun so far and this gives my kids things that help them tickle their brain with logic. Also, all the different variants for the cards are really cool to see.\u201d \u2014 WALL-E<\/p>\n \u201cBeen using Folio<\/strong><\/a> as my Pocket<\/strong> replacement and have been quite happy.\u201d \u2014 Carter<\/p>\n \u201cAll four The Trip<\/strong><\/a> movies are streaming on Criterion Channel. Very funny, very mean comedies \u2014 and the longer BBC episodic cuts are also available too, if you want the extended play version (which you will).\u201d \u2014 Kevin<\/p>\n \u201cDespite my backlog, I\u2019m checking out A Solitaire Mystery<\/strong><\/a>, as I have no choice but to play anything from the Baba Is You<\/strong><\/a> developer.\u201d \u2014 Tristan<\/p>\n \u201cJust made the switch to the Pixel line<\/strong><\/a> from iOS, and I\u2019m really digging trying a new OS. Outside of that, I\u2019ve been taking a slight tech break and going back to physically painting, reading paperbacks, and being present.\u201d \u2014 EmpireStrikesBacktotheFuture<\/p>\n All week, I have been mourning the recent end of the latest series of Taskmaster<\/strong><\/a>, a British comedy show where five comedians must all complete absurd tasks and be graded on them by the show\u2019s mercurial host. This batch of episodes, series 19<\/a>, was my favorite set yet: the cast of comedians (the first to feature an American, Jason Mantzoukas) were all hilarious, and the tasks were ridiculous.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re looking for something new and funny to watch, I can\u2019t recommend series 19 enough.
