Hope Mavs fans got enough of a look at Cooper Flagg<\/a> to hold them over for the summer.<\/p>\n

After a pair of summer league games<\/a> for the No. 1 overall pick, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to shut down their star rookie for the remainder of the summer schedule, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Dallas Morning News.<\/p>\n

The #Mavs<\/a> are shutting down Cooper Flagg for the remainder of Summer League, a person\u2019s familiar with the decision confirms.<\/p>\n

Flagg averaged 20.5 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block in his two games against the #Lakers<\/a> and #Spurs<\/a>.@TheSteinLine<\/a> was first.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a totally unexpected decision. In recent years the No. 1 pick has rarely played beyond the second summer league game as a precaution to avoid injuries. Zaccharie Risacher, the 2024 No. 1 pick of the Hawks, and Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs\u2019 top pick in 2023, each played in just two games in their summer league debuts.<\/p>\n

Flagg averaged 20.5 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block in his two games against the Lakers and the Spurs. His time on the floor featured some high-flying dunks<\/a> (and some high-flying dunk attempts<\/a>) and flashes of his ball-handling skills and versatility, the Mavericks saying before the summer season started that they were hoping to challenge the No. 1 pick<\/a> and make him \u201cuncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked it in the first game against the Lakers<\/a>, shooting just 5-of-21 from the field and totaling 10 points. But he bounced back Saturday against the Spurs<\/a>, scoring a game-high 31 points on 10-of-21 shooting.<\/p>\n

That\u2019ll be where Flagg\u2019s first spin through the summer league ends, and Mavericks fans likely won\u2019t see Flagg in game action again until the preseason.<\/p>\n
