JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A blood-red moon will soon grace the skies for a total lunar eclipse Tuesday \u2014 and there won\u2019t be another until late 2028.<\/p>\n
A partial lunar eclipse will begin at 4:50 a.m., becoming a total lunar eclipse at 6:04 a.m., then peaking at 6:33 a.m.<\/p>\n
The moon will be setting below the horizon in the western sky at 6:52 AM. <\/p>\n
Clouds\/fog and the low position of the moon will make it difficult to see for many across our area.<\/p>\n

There are between four and seven a year, according to NASA.<\/p>\n The eclipses tend to follow each other, taking advantage of the sweet spot in the celestial bodies\u2019 orbits. Tuesday\u2019s total eclipse of the moon comes two weeks after a \u2018ring of fire\u2019 solar eclipse that dazzled people and penguins in Antarctica.<\/p>\n During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth is between the sun and full moon, casting a shadow that covers the moon. The so-called blood moon looks red because of stray bits of sunlight filtering through Earth\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n The show unfolds over several hours, with totality lasting about an hour.<\/p>\n Compared to a solar eclipse, \u201cthe lunar eclipse is a little more of a relaxed pace,\u201d said Catherine Miller at Middlebury College\u2019s Mittelman Observatory.<\/p>\n For those in the path, there\u2019s no need for any special equipment to observe \u2014 just a clear, cloudless view of the sky.<\/p>\n Use a forecasting app or any online celestial calendar to look up the exact timing for your area.
