A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled Tuesday honoring Gabriel \u201cFluffy\u201d Iglesias for being one of the most popular standup comedians of all time.<\/p>\n
Talent manager and producer Joe Meloche, sports analyst Jonathan Coachman and comedians Alfred Robles and Martin Moreno joined Iglesias in speaking at the ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know what\u2019s crazy is that I graduated late from high school, so I did not get an opportunity to walk and receive my diploma,\u201d Iglesias said during the ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so, for me, this is so many different things put together in one day. It definitely feels like a graduation, like an accomplishment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Iglesias also reflected on the significance of the moment and his long career in standup comedy.<\/p>\n
\u201c(Do) you know how many people messaged me when they found out I got a star and said, `Why you? Why you? You don\u2019t make movies.\u2019 I said, `I know I don\u2019t make movies. But you know what I make? I make memories,\u201d\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The ceremony also featured a performance by Mariachi Los Reyes, who bill themselves as \u201cthe most sought-after mariachi group in Los Angeles and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGabriel `Fluffy\u2019 Iglesias has spent decades bringing joy to audiences across generations and cultures, and today we celebrate not just a comedian, but a storyteller whose warmth and authenticity have made him beloved around the world. His connection with his fans is extraordinary,\u201d Martinez said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The ceremony comes three days before the start of Iglesias\u2019 \u201cThe 1976 Tour\u201d in Anchorage, Alaska. The tour also includes Jo Koy joining Iglesias at SoFi Stadium on March 21.<\/p>\n
Iglesias is one of the most watched comedians on YouTube with over 2 billion views and over 34.6 million fans across social media. He was the third-highest grossing comedian of 2024 according to Billboard.<\/p>\n
He is among the few comedians to headline and sell out Crypto.com Arena, Madison Square Garden and the Sydney Opera House.<\/p>\n
In 2022, Iglesias became the first comedian to perform at Dodger Stadium, which he sold out. The Dodger Stadium performance also served as Iglesias\u2019 third Netflix special.<\/p>\n
The first was 2016\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry,\u201d which he performed at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The second, \u201cOne Show Fits All,\u201d was performed at the Toyota Center in Houston and debuted in January 2019.<\/p>\n
Iglesias also starred in the 2019-20 Netflix comedy \u201cMr. Iglesias,\u201d portraying Gabe Iglesias, a history teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach.<\/p>\n
Born July 15, 1976, in San Diego, the youngest of six children, Iglesias lived in Riverside, Corona, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park and Compton before settling in Section 8 low-income housing in Long Beach, where he spent most of his youth.<\/p>\n
He developed a strong sense of humor during his childhood to deal with the obstacles he faced. In 1997, he began performing stand-up anywhere he could find an audience, including biker bars and hole-in-the-wall joints.<\/p>\n
Iglesias made his television debut in 2000 on the Nickelodeon children\u2019s sketch comedy series \u201cAll That.\u201d The first situation comedy he appeared on was ABC\u2019s \u201cMy Wife and Kids.\u201d<\/p>\n
