The Dallas Mavericks<\/a> aren’t playing for a playoff spot this season.<\/p>\n

Instead, they’ll use the closing stages of this season for evaluation to figure out who might be part of their future alongside Cooper Flagg.<\/p>\n

To that end, they made two new signings this week: John Poulakidas and Tyler Smith have both signed two-way contracts that are two-year deals, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Poulakidas was a college star at Yale for four years. He made 40.2% of his career 3-pointers at the college level. As a senior, he averaged 19.2 points per game and was the MVP of the Ivy League Tournament.<\/p>\n

The lefty sharpshooter hasn’t yet played at the NBA level, but he has appeared in 24 G League games for the San Diego Clippers<\/a>. In that action, he’s averaging 14.7 points per game while shooting a ridiculous 47.3% from 3-point range.<\/p>\n

Smith was called up from the Mavs’ affiliate, the Rio Grande Vipers.<\/p>\n

He played in 19 games for the Vipers this season, averaging 15.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.<\/p>\n

Smith also played earlier this season with the Wizards<\/a>‘ affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go.<\/p>\n

The Mavs don’t necessarily have long futures planned for either of these guys, but it’s logical to give them both a solid look the rest of the way.<\/p>\n

Poulakidas is especially intriguing. You can’t teach that pure lefty shooting stroke — it’s special. So keep an eye on him the rest of the way.<\/p>\n
