{"id":632230,"date":"2026-03-04T19:02:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T19:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/632230\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T19:02:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T19:02:13","slug":"steph-curry-missing-rest-of-season-would-surprise-mike-dunleavy-nbc-bay-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/632230\/","title":{"rendered":"Steph Curry missing rest of season would surprise Mike Dunleavy \u2013 NBC Bay Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A nagging knee issue has sidelined\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/curryst01\/gamelog\/2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Steph Curry<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a011 games\u00a0and will keep him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/steph-curry-knee-injury-update-4\/1920814\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">out for at least the next four<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Warriors enter Wednesday\u00a0as the No. 8 playoff seed in the Western Conference standings. They are 6.0 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers\u00a0for the No. 6 seed and 7.5 games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies\u00a0at No. 11,\u00a0seemingly destining\u00a0Golden State into the NBA play-in tournament.<\/p>\n<p>With little perceivable reward in the standings for a quick return, many think\u00a0the team should\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/steph-curry-injury-fan-poll\/1921029\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shut Curry down for the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of the regular season<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>General manager Mike Dunleavy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vHmjN1K8HYo?si=Z5jWxDKSvUuFYj_Z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">told\u00a0the SF Standard\u2019s\u00a0Tim Kawakami on \u201cThe TK Show\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that he would be surprised if the Warriors star\u00a0was\u00a0held out until the play-in tournament but acknowledged\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a possibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be very, very surprising,\u201d Dunleavy told Kawakami.\u00a0\u201cBut, you know,\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not going to rule anything out;\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not a doctor, and things can go a certain way. So, I\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0want the headline to be Steph may be done for the year because\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not ruling it out, but just because\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0not playing right now, I just\u00a0have to\u00a0acknowledge that\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0sure\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a chance, but we\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0expect that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dunleavy hedges by not making any promises that are out of his control. Nevertheless, his statement\u00a0indicates\u00a0that holding the Warriors\u2019 superstar out until\u00a0the Play-In tournament in mid-April would not be an ideal course.<\/p>\n<p>The balance between injury management and competitiveness is different at this point in the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we look at that differently than\u00a0a middle\u00a0of the season back-to-back,\u201d Dunleavy explained. \u201cThis is a competitive thing.\u00a0This gets us into the tournament, so we&#8217;re going to do everything possible to get all of our guys back ready for if it&#8217;s a play-in game or a second play-in game, whatever it may be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve been there before.\u00a0We&#8217;ve\u00a0done this play-in tournament. We know how it works.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0like an NCAA feel, right?\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0do-or-die\u00a0and we have\u00a0a great group\u00a0that\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0won some,\u00a0we\u00a0haven&#8217;t\u00a0won some, but\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0do everything we can to get everybody back for it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the play-in tournament and whatever postseason run materializes for the Warriors, the impending offseason looms large for Dunleavy\u00a0and company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Curry has been nursing his knee, new acquisition\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porzikr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Kristaps\u00a0Porzi\u0146\u0123is<\/a>\u00a0has been absent as well. The 7-foot-3\u00a0Latvian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/steve-kerr-kristaps-porzingis-illness\/1921045\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">has played just one game<\/a>\u00a0since the Warriors\u00a0acquired\u00a0him via trade on Feb. 5.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In order to\u00a0chart a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/kristaps-porzingis-trade-offseason\/1921398\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">proper course for the offseason<\/a>, Dunleavy needs\u00a0Porzi\u0146\u0123is\u00a0on the court to evaluate his fit on the team.\u00a0Seeing the new Warriors stretch-big alongside the\u00a0nucleus of their team is even more important for that evaluation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u00a0definitely need\u00a0him out there. We want to see him out there,\u201d Dunleavy said of\u00a0Porzi\u0146\u0123is. \u201cSame thing for Steph, too, right? We need him to get back as well. So, the clock is ticking in general.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re approaching the last quarter of the season here. The race is on, and the sooner we get these guys back, the better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of arguments to be made for and against Curry returning to play.
