(TechCrunch has also reached out to Meta for confirmation.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta\u2019s memo reportedly said that PlayAI\u2019s \u201cwork in creating natural voices, along with a platform for easy voice creation, is a great match for our work and road map, across AI Characters, Meta AI, Wearables and audio content creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company has been making big investments in AI, including <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/28\/meta-reportedly-hires-four-more-researchers-from-openai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggressive recruiting from OpenAI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/13\/scale-ai-confirms-significant-investment-from-meta-says-ceo-alexandr-wang-is-leaving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a deal with Scale AI<\/a> that saw the company\u2019s CEO Alexandr Wang joining Meta to lead a new group focused on superintelligence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Bloomberg had previously reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/27\/meta-in-talks-to-acquire-voice-cloning-startup-play-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the two companies were in acquisition talks<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Meta has acquired Play AI, a startup that uses AI to generate human-sounding voices.
