{"id":632671,"date":"2026-03-04T23:32:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T23:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/632671\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T23:32:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T23:32:25","slug":"municipal-elections-coming-up-for-orange-park-green-cove-springs-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/632671\/","title":{"rendered":"Municipal elections coming up for Orange Park, Green Cove Springs voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>CLAY COUNTY, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Florida\u2019s high-profile 2026 elections are still a few months away, but this spring, some Clay County voters will be heading to the polls to elect local officials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The City of Green Cove Springs and the Town of Orange Park will both hold local elections on April 14, on what the Clay County Supervisor of Elections calls \u201cMunicipal Super Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For both municipalities, voters must live within the city\/town limits and be registered to vote by Monday, March 16, in order to be eligible to cast a ballot. Mail-in ballots must be requested by April 2 and can be requested at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ClayElections.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ClayElections.gov\">ClayElections.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Orange Park<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In Orange Park, there is only one race on the ballot. Councilman Doug Benefield is seeking re-election, facing Chuck Lindholm, in a non-partisan election, for Town Council Seat 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On Election Day, April 14, Orange Park voters can cast a ballot between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Orange Park Town Hall, 2042 Park Ave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Susan Winnette Sandlin was up for re-election for Seat 2, but was unopposed, so the race will not appear on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p><b>Green Cove Springs<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In Green Cove Springs, voters will see one race plus three proposed charter amendments on their ballots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ed Gaw is seeking re-election to City Council Seat 1, facing Tom Centracchio in a non-partisan race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In January, the Green Cove Springs City Council passed an ordinance authorizing a referendum on the following proposed charter amendments:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Charter Amendment 1: Allow a Notary Public to administer the Oath of Office to a City Council Member<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Charter Amendment 2: May City Council waive requirement that City Manager\u2019s dwelling be within City utility service area<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Charter Amendment 3: May City Council waive requirement for City Attorney\u2019s residence or office to be within City<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 ehhZIC\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>\u201cShall the City Charter Section 4.03 be amended to allow the City Council to waive the requirement that the City Attorney reside or have an office within the City of Green Cove Springs so that they may hire an otherwise qualified attorney or firm that does not live or have an office within the City limits?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On Election Day, April 14, Green Cove Springs voters can cast a ballot from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Green Cove Springs city council chambers at 321 Walnut St.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Seat 2 councilmember Matt Johnson was unopposed for re-election, so that race will not appear on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 by WJXT News4JAX &#8211;
