It will serve startups in high-growth sectors such as robotics, aerospace, quantum, artificial intelligence (AI), energy tech, computer services, cybersecurity and defense.<\/p>\n<p>AEDP has set up a request for proposals for a program operator.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first direct support AEDP is making for startups in these tech industries. The program aims to support startups that already exist in the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know they want and need this support to grow in Alexandria,\u201d said Philomena Fitzgerald, the small business and entrepreneurship manager for AEDP. \u201cOur goal with this [request for proposals] is to find the right partner to create custom programming to help Alexandria entrepreneurs grow successfully while simultaneously improving the Alexandria start-up ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program is one of the strategies through City Council\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alxnow.com\/2026\/01\/14\/city-council-approves-plan-to-boost-alexandrias-economic-growth-amid-challenges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently adopted ALX Forward<\/a>, a roadmap for the city\u2019s future economic growth. Attracting high-growth industries and boosting support for entrepreneurs are key components of the ALX Forward strategy.<\/p>\n<p>AEDP says the program will \u201cinform the development of future services and programs geared at high-growth entrepreneurs.\u201d The program operator will be encouraged to utilize spaces like Virginia Tech\u2019s campus, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Northern Virginia Community College, National Science Foundation and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlnow.com\/2026\/02\/12\/new-innovation-district-in-national-landing-promotes-business-defense-partnerships\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Innovation Quarter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/washington\/news\/2026\/03\/03\/alexandria-economic-development-accelerator-search.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Business Journal report<\/a>, the program has $200,000 in city funding for the first year, and AEDP could pursue additional funding beyond 2026 if the program succeeds.<\/p>\n<p>The request for proposals will be open through March 25.
