{"id":63481,"date":"2025-07-13T23:55:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T23:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/63481\/"},"modified":"2025-07-13T23:55:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T23:55:10","slug":"libertys-sabrina-ionescu-to-compete-in-3-point-contest-at-wnba-all-star-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/63481\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberty&#8217;s Sabrina Ionescu to compete in 3-point contest at WNBA All-Star Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sabrina Ionescu posted a cryptic Instagram story Friday with a photo from her 3-point shootout with Stephen Curry at last year\u2019s NBA All-Star that was accompanied by several eyeball emojis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The post led many to believe that it was Ionescu subtly announcing her plans to participate in the 3-point contest at WNBA All-Star later this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ionescu confirmed to The Post after Sunday\u2019s win that people\u2019s assumptions were correct, saying she\u2019ll indeed be a part of Friday\u2019s 3-point contest in Indianapolis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She joins Mystics rookie Sonia Citron as the only two players confirmed to be participating, though there\u2019s a strong belief that Fever star Caitlin Clark will join in the fun, too, given that her team\u2019s city is hosting the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This will be Ionescu\u2019s second time being part of the WNBA\u2019s 3-point contest and her first since she won the event in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36526802\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/user-expressly-acknowledges-agrees-downloading-108128562.jpg\" alt=\"Sabrina Ionescu #20 of the New York Liberty during a game.\" class=\"wp-image-36526802\"  \/>Sabrina Ionescu of the Liberty reacts during the second half against the Atlanta Dream at Barclays Center on July 13, 2025 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Not only was it enough to win the competition but it also broke the previous WNBA and NBA single-round record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ionescu also went head-to-head against Stephen Curry at the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend. The Warriors star bested Ionescu with a score of 29-26, but it was a huge hit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked about potentially going head-to-head with Clark specifically, Ionescu said, \u201cI gotta get through to the second round. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Ionescu, who earned her first All-Star nod this year, is a career 35.9 percent shooter from downtown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This season, she\u2019s made 47 3-pointers \u2014 tied for third most in the league \u2014 while shooting a career-low 32.4 percent from deep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty waived guard Marquesha Davis ahead of Sunday\u2019s mid-season cut down deadline or the last day teams could waive unprotected (non-guaranteed) contracts without financial penalty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move gives the Liberty more financial flexibility moving forward and opens a roster spot in case they want to add another player.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCovering the Liberty like never before\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Madeline Kenney&#8217;s Inside the Liberty, a weekly Sports+ newsletter.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Coach Sandy Brondello said pregame roster moves like Sunday\u2019s are always \u201ctough decisions.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Davis, the No. 11 pick in 2024, appeared in only nine games this season \u2014 mostly in garbage time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe didn\u2019t get many opportunities but we felt growth in these last two years,\u201d Brondello said. \u201cShe\u2019s learned to play, compete and be better as a pro, what it takes to play at this level.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Davis clears waivers, the Liberty could potentially bring her back on a seven-day deal.
