That feeling may be harder to come by in the not-so-distant future, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/nyc-mayor-mamdani-hiring-ice-191118171.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Zohran Mamdani\u2019s;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zohran Mamdani\u2019s<\/a> deputy mayor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Speaking at New York Law School on Thursday morning, Deputy Mayor Dean Fuleihan said the administration is open to increasing parking costs in the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s not a no,\u201d he responded to an audience member\u2019s questions about increasing meter prices or metering currently free spaces. \u201cYes, we should be looking at all these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s something that\u2019s been suggested by the Center for an Urban Future in a report released in February, with <a href=\"https:\/\/nycfuture.org\/pdf\/5IdeasRaisingRevenue_v4.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:ideas to increase revenue;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">ideas to increase revenue<\/a> in New York City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mayor Mamdani has consistently said that the city is looking for different ways to pull itself out of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/gov-kathy-hochul-giving-nyc-164052654.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:serious budget crisis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">serious budget crisis<\/a>. The mayor even suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/mayor-mamdani-threatens-hike-nyc-183229236.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:hiking property taxes;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hiking property taxes<\/a> would be a last-resort effort if it comes down to it.<\/p>\n<p>Report suggests expanding NYC paid parking<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The report estimates that the city could get an extra $1 billion if officials expanded metered parking to 25% of the existing free street parking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Currently, there are roughly 80,000 metered spots of over 3 million total parking spaces in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Parking permits for a price?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Center for an Urban Future also recommended instituting a residential parking permit system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The system would charge a $75 parking permit fee for 10% of car-owning households in the city.
