{"id":635853,"date":"2026-03-06T07:49:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T07:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/635853\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T07:49:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T07:49:17","slug":"lebron-james-breaks-another-kareem-abdul-jabbar-record-in-lakers-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/635853\/","title":{"rendered":"LeBron James breaks another Kareem Abdul-Jabbar record in Lakers loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>DENVER\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/newsletter\/2026-03-03\/lakers-lebron-james\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LeBron James<\/a> is king of another NBA record once held by <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/lakers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lakers<\/a> legend <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/story\/2023-02-08\/kareem-abdul-jabbar-lebron-james-nba-scoring-record\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>James broke Abdul-Jabbar\u2019s record for the most career field goals in the regular season Thursday against the Denver Nuggets, but an elbow injury limited his contributions in crunch time of the Lakers\u2019 <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/statsdmz.nba.com\/pdfs\/20260305\/20260305_LALDEN_book.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">120-113 loss.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After scoring over Denver center <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jokicni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nikola Jokic<\/a> in the fourth quarter, James fell to the court and immediately grabbed his left elbow. He eventually got up and went to the bench with 3:58 remaining. He returned with 2:05 left and the Lakers down 112-111 before leaving again with 22 seconds left after Jokic scored consecutive baskets to give the Nuggets a 116-111 lead. Jokic finished with a triple-double of 28 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Jamal Murray had 28 points and two game-sealing free throws for Denver (39-24).<\/p>\n<p>James finished with 16 points, eight assists and five rebounds and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/lakers\/story\/2026-02-28\/luka-doncic-lakers-lebron-nba-warriors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luka Doncic<\/a> led the Lakers with 27 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.<\/p>\n<p>James entered the game needing to make three field goals to pass Abdul-Jabbar for the most made field goals in league history. James tied Abdul-Jabbar\u2019s mark for most regular-season field goals when he dunked off a lob pass from Doncic with 8:33 left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>           <img id=\"yt-img-BiSlV8NFOmI\" class=\"absolute\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772783357_601_hqdefault.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>                 <\/p>\n<p>He set the new mark of 15,838 with a fadeaway jumper near the Lakers\u2019 bench with 11.8 seconds left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>When James went to the bench with the Lakers (37-25) trailing 32-22 at the end of the quarter, the Denver Nuggets\u2019 public address announcer told the crowd about his accomplishment. James was given a standing ovation from the fans at Ball Arena.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeBron\u2019s greatest hits, he just keeps adding to them,\u201d said <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/lakers\/story\/2026-03-05\/commentary-lakers-wrong-kind-of-interesting-amid-fan-scrutiny\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lakers coach JJ Redick<\/a> before the game. \u201cHe just plays and plays and plays. And the greatest hits are just &#8230; he\u2019s got a hell of a catalog.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James finished the game with 15,842 career field goals.<\/p>\n<p>James is the league\u2019s all-time leading scorer, having broken <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/lakers\/story\/2023-02-03\/full-coverage-lebron-james-kareem-abdul-jabbar-nba-scorer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abdul-Jabbar\u2019s mark of 38,387 points<\/a> on Feb. 7, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Ayton injured against Nuggets<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/newsletter\/2026-02-24\/deandre-ayton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lakers center Deandre Ayton<\/a> didn\u2019t return for the second half against the Nuggets after sustaining a knee injury.<\/p>\n<p>Ayton left the court in the first quarter. The Lakers didn\u2019t say which knee Ayton injured.<\/p>\n<p>He played four minutes and 30 seconds and had two rebounds and no points.<\/p>\n<p>Jaxson Hayes started the second half in Ayton\u2019s place. <\/p>\n<p>Ayton entered the game averaging 12.8 points on 66.8% shooting with 8.3 rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Not having Ayton meant Hayes (19 points) and Rui Hachimura (16 points) had to take on the role of defending Jokic.<\/p>\n<p>Etc.<\/p>\n<p>Doncic picked up his 15th technical foul of the season against the Nuggets.
