{"id":63609,"date":"2025-07-14T01:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T01:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/63609\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T01:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T01:07:11","slug":"former-dem-advisor-dan-turrentine-speaks-out-against-mamdanis-anti-cop-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/63609\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Dem advisor Dan Turrentine speaks out against Mamdani&#8217;s anti-cop comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Democratic Party advisor Dan Turrentine blasted New York democratic socialist mayoral candidate\u00a0Zohran Mamdani\u00a0for his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/11\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-laundering-defund-the-police-past-by-toying-with-keeping-nypd-commish-tisch-if-elected-mayor-critics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently resurfaced comments on law enforcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since he won the Democratic primary, Mamdani has faced blistering criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his rhetoric, such as refusing to disavow the phrase\u00a0\u201cglobalize the intifada,\u201d\u00a0which many argue is a call for violence.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Mamdani\u2019s 2020 interview on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qXXTTu8pMro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cImmigrantly\u201d podcast<\/a>\u00a0went viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p>In the clip, Mamdani argued that if one looks at the history of the New York Police Department, \u201cyou can see that we have invested in a system that functions in many ways to punish poor Black and Brown people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He went on to claim that these officers are overstepping their proper roles, whether they are called in to handle a homeless person on a train or if somebody is \u201csurviving, you know, going through domestic violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since he won the Democratic primary, Mamdani has faced blistering criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his rhetoric. Matthew McDermott<\/p>\n<p>Co-host Mark Halperin noted \u201cthe notion that police shouldn\u2019t be called in cases of\u00a0domestic violence,\u201d and turned to Turrentine, also a co-host on the show, to ask, \u201cWhat do you think of that? Is that something that\u2019s going to hurt him or not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turrentine, who worked under Hillary Clinton when she was a New York senator and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis when he was in the House of Representatives, shared his hope on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-pQUNDDF03U&amp;list=PLkGGN1RDaWfe92x4e8qyo5mhnheqys1aX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Morning Meeting podcast<\/a>\u00a0that the Democratic Party condemns this politician.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Turrentine shared his hope on\u00a0The Morning Meeting podcast\u00a0that the Democratic Party condemns this politician.\u00a0 2Way<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m almost speechless. Like, that is so enraging,\u201d Turrentine said. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy. I hope it hurts him. Like, when I hear that, and I try to have an open mind, hope that whoever our next mayor is makes this city a great place. I live [here]. We have children here.\u00a0New York City\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/11\/opinion\/dont-fall-for-the-blue-washing-drive-to-hide-mamdanis-cop-hate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police officers put themselves in such harm\u2019s way<\/a>. This city is full of crazy people on subways. I, our children go on it. The number of times that there are homeless people who are, like, out of their mind who come up to kids, who scream at them right near \u2013 to say the police are the [problem], I hope our party condemns him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turrentine lamented the mere prospect of how things would be \u201cif\u00a0Hakeem Jeffries\u00a0and Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and everybody cannot stand up for the NYPD after the progress they\u2019ve made with crime the last few years,\u201d recalling how New York City went from a \u201chellhole\u201d to being relatively stable, up until recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m almost speechless. Like, that is so enraging,\u201d Turrentine said. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy. I hope it hurts him.\u201d Stephen Yang<\/p>\n<p>On the podcast, former Trump Press Secretary\u00a0Sean Spicer, also a co-host, honed in on the domestic violence comments, mocking the idea that some sort of social worker is a better person to contact in such <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/28\/us-news\/electing-socialist-zohran-mamdani-nyc-mayor-would-spur-cop-exodus-rising-crime-experts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cases than a police officer<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t want someone to come in and ask them about their feelings. I want them to protect me,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cAside from all of the stuff that Dan rightly brought up, which I agree with, it doesn\u2019t pass the common sense test,\u201d he said. \u201cIf someone is being brutalized, attacked, you want someone who can protect you, stop them.
