Ryan Gosling<\/a> made a very rare public appearance with Eva Mendes<\/a> as the private couple celebrated her 52nd birthday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old actor, who is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Project Hail Mary<\/a>,\u00a0was joined by the actress during Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring\u00a0Jimmy Fallon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lovebirds first crossed paths back in 2011 while on set of the movie The Place Beyond The Pines, and have mainly kept their romance out of the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Both Gosling and Mendes held big smiles on their faces while cozying up together as they received a warm welcome from Fallon and the live audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair were later seen standing next to a large sign that read ‘Happy Birthday Eva!’ which was held by a marching band.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Colorful confetti could be seen falling onto the ground inside the studio where the late-night talk show was held.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her brunette locks were parted to the side and cascaded down past her shoulders in light waves.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Notebook actor also dressed for the occasion, wearing a black shirt, black trousers and a dark gray blazer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two stars had a sweet backstage moment, which showed the pair talking to Fallon. Mendes could be seen linking arms with Gosling as she also rested her hand on his arm.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

After Mendes and Gosling first sparked up a romance on the crime thriller over a decade earlier<\/a>, they also welcomed two daughters: Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, nine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He recently revealed how their two children were involved in his new sci-fi adventure film Project Hail Mary, which hits theaters on March 20.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The premise is: ‘Science teacher Ryland Grace [Gosling] wakes up alone on a spaceship light-years from Earth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘As his memory returns, he uncovers a mission to stop a mysterious substance killing the sun, and save Earth. An unexpected friendship may be the key,’ per IMDB<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘My kids have seen multiple cuts. They give me multiple notes. They’re basically the only critics I care about, and they are very critical and very honest,’ the star shared.<\/p>\n

Mendes has also been supportive of the actor and his forthcoming lead role in the film, which is based on the 2021 science fiction novel of the same name.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last month on Valentine’s Day, the Ghost Rider actress\u00a0jumped to her main Instagram page to share a series of snaps\u00a0as she modeled a shirt to promote Project Hail Mary.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The short-sleeved shirt had the words ‘Believe in the Hail Mary’ printed towards the top.<\/p>\n

In the caption of the carousel of pictures, the mom-of-two penned: ‘For my Valentine \u2665\ufe0f.’<\/p>\n

‘I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her,’ he told the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The star explained that filming scenes as a family with Mendes prompted his outlook to change. ‘I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have.’<\/p>\n

Gosling further commented on fatherhood and stated that, ‘I would never want to go back, you know?<\/p>\n

‘I’m glad I didn’t have control over my destiny in that way, because it was so much better than I ever had dreamed for myself.’<\/p>\n

And while previously talking to\u00a0People<\/a>, Mendes also discussed having children later in life. ‘When I was 40, it was a big deal for people when I was pregnant, and it wasn’t for me.’<\/p>\n

She added, ‘And then I was 42 and I was pregnant with my second one and people were like, “Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s.” I was like, that’s the most sorry, asinine thing I’ve ever heard.<\/p>\n

‘It takes more patience. In my 20s, I shouldn’t have even been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoking. I could not have raised kids in any other era of my life but now, for sure.’<\/p>\n

Gosling will also host Saturday Night Live later this week on March 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n
