Daryl Hannah has no love for \u201cLove Story.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n

The actress wrote a scathing essay<\/a> for the New York Times published Friday slamming the Ryan Murphy-produced show, which highlights Hannah\u2019s romance with John F. Kennedy Jr. before he fell in love with Carolyn Bessette.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have long believed that engaging with distortion often amplifies it,\u201d the 65-year-old actress wrote at the beginning of her essay.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette features a character using my name and presents her as me,\u201d Hannah continued. \u201cThe choice to portray her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate was no accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah insisted the series \u2014 which stars Paul Anthony Kelly as Kennedy Jr.<\/a> and Sarah Pidgeon as Bessette <\/a>\u2014 isn\u2019t \u201ca remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show,\u201d Hannah (seen above at the \u201cFighting Oligarchy\u201d Rally in April 2025) said in her essay. GC Images<\/p>\n

\u201cThe actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue,\u201d she added, accusing the show of \u201ctextbook misogyny\u201d by framing her as a \u201crival\u201d to Kennedy Jr. and Bessette\u2019s relationship.<\/a><\/p>\n

Hannah then called out specific moments in the show that she insists are inaccurate. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI have never pressured anyone into marriage. I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone\u2019s private memorial. I have never planted any story in the press. I never compared Jacqueline Onassis\u2019 death to a dog\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also said \u201cit\u2019s appalling\u201d that she has to \u201cdefend\u201d herself against a TV show, reiterating that the \u201cembellishments\u201d of her personality in the program are \u201cfalse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah also claimed she\u2019s gotten \u201chostile and threatening messages\u201d from fans of the show (Kelly and Hemingway in the show, pictured above). FX<\/p>\n

Later in her essay, Hannah (pictured above with JFK Jr. at the 1994 NBA Finals) called out the \u201cLove Story\u201d producers for not respecting the Kennedy family\u2019s privacy. AP<\/p>\n

Later in the essay, Hannah claimed that since the show premiered on February 12, she\u2019s \u201creceived many hostile and even threatening messages from viewers who seem to believe the portrayal is factual.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy silence should not be mistaken for agreement with lies,\u201d she continued, after explaining that she usually keeps quiet about her public perception. \u201cApparently, my discretion makes me a target.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cSplash\u201d star also noted that the Kennedys are \u201cnotoriously private\u201d and she\u2019s \u201calways honored their right to privacy,\u201d unlike the makers of \u201cLove Story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKnow that most (if not all) of those claiming to have any intimate knowledge of our personal lives are self-serving sensationalists trading in gossip, innuendo and speculation,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Hannah and Kennedy Jr. had an on-again off-again relationship<\/a>\u00a0from 1988 to 1994. <\/p>\n

Their romance came to an end after the death of Kennedy Jr.\u2019s mother, Jackie Onassis, in 1994,\u00a0and the death of Hannah\u2019s dog.<\/p>\n

Kennedy Jr. was walking the dog in Central Park when it got loose and was hit by a car. <\/p>\n

According to the book \u201cJFK Jr.: An Intimate Oral Biography,\u201d<\/a> Kennedy Jr. was \u201cdeeply resentful\u201d that Hannah made him come to her dog\u2019s funeral in Los Angeles while his mom was dying of cancer in New York.<\/p>\n

JFK Jr. began dating Carolyn Bessette after his split from Hannah (Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon in \u201cLove Story,\u201d pictured above). FX<\/p>\n

JFK Jr. and Bessette died in a plane crash in 1999. AP<\/p>\n

After their breakup, Kennedy Jr. began dating Bessette, who he married in 1996. They both died<\/a> in a 1999 plane crash alongside her sister, Lauren Bessette.<\/p>\n

Hannah, meanwhile, has been married to rocker Neil Young<\/a> since 2018.<\/p>\n
