Pictures<\/a>. The movie is being directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/andy-serkis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Serkis<\/a>, who previously played Gollum\/Sm\u00e9agol in Peter Jackson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/the-lord-of-the-rings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Lord of the Rings<\/a> trilogy, while he also appeared in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.<\/p>\n<p>Serkis will be reprising his role in The Hunt for Gollum, while Ian McKellen has confirmed he\u2019ll be returning as Gandalf. Elijah Wood has strongly teased his return as Frodo in the movie as well, though he technically hasn\u2019t officially confirmed his involvement.<\/p>\n<p>What is the update on Lord of the Rings and The Hunt for Gollum?<\/p>\n<p>On a recent episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RlQyPktqFO0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Hot Mic<\/a>, insider Jeff Sneider revealed that Warner Bros. Pictures may be planning a new The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which The Hunt for Gollum would serve as the first entry in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really know what to do with this tip,\u201d Sneider said. \u201cI heard that the Lord of the Rings movie. I\u2019m told that there\u2019s a new trilogy. I hear that there\u2019s a new Lord of the Rings trilogy in the works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if The Hunt for Gollum would be the first installment in this trilogy, Sneider said, \u201cI think so. I think it would be the first one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At this time, Warner Bros. Pictures has not yet announced any plans for any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/middle-earth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Middle-earth<\/a> movies apart from The Hunt for Gollum.
