Wrexham are less than a month away from starting the Championship campaign with a trip to Southampton.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This summer has provided even more pinch-me moments after Wrexham<\/a> secured a third-straight promotion.<\/p>\n

Wrexham face Southampton on the opening day<\/a> of the Championship season, a league meeting that few could have expected to see just a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Wrexham have also jetted off on another pre-season tour, this time heading to Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds overlooked the United States<\/a> this time, but the Wrexham buzz has made its way Down Under.<\/p>\n

Wrexham continue to make huge strides both on and off the pitch, and that surely won\u2019t come to an end any time soon.<\/p>\n

McElhenney and Reynolds have not only sparked major interest in Wrexham from around the world but also engaged the local community in this incredible rise.<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson<\/a> has been the man to knit it all together, but none of this would have been possible without McElhenney and Reynolds.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood duo purchased Wrexham for around \u00a32million<\/a> in 2021 and arrived with a goal.<\/p>\n

McElhenney targeted the Championship inside five years<\/a> when trying to sign Paul Mullin, and Wrexham have managed it in just four years.<\/p>\n

McElhenney has now opened up on the Wrexham journey and how his original plans for Reynolds changed.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Dan Patrick Show, McElhenney \u2013 who now also goes by \u2018Rob Mac\u2019 \u2013 admitted that he initially wanted Reynolds to sponsor Wrexham through his company, Aviation Gin.<\/p>\n

McElhenney slowly realised that Reynolds could take the Wrexham project to an entirely different level, and set the wheels in motion to become partners.<\/p>\n

Now \u2018horrifically addicted\u2019 to football, McElhenney will certainly believe that he made the right decision when changing his approach to Reynolds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went back and I found the original email that I sent to him, where I laid out the idea, what I wanted to do,\u201d said McElhenney.<\/p>\n

\u201cOriginally, I was going to do it on my own and ask Ryan if he wanted to be a sponsor, Aviation Gin as the front-of-kit sponsor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe more I thought about it, the more I realised\u2026 \u2018wow, he\u2019s such an entrepreneur, he\u2019s globally famous, whatever he touches seems to turn to gold, if I could potentially include him as a partner, this could take this thing to the stratosphere\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember asking my wife about it, I said \u2018Kaitlin, what do you think about me asking Ryan to be a full partner on this?\u2019, and she said \u2018I don\u2019t know, I guess it depends on whether your ego can take sharing a screen with Ryan Reynolds\u2019. I said \u2018ehh\u2026 good point, good point\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe went in with our hearts on our sleeves, we said \u2018we don\u2019t know anything about football\u2019. Honestly, I\u2019ve become a soccer fan. I was not even a fan of the beautiful game up until five years ago, and now I\u2019m horrifically addicted,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Wrexham won\u2019t just settle for Championship action<\/strong><\/p>\n

McElhenney\u2019s first major target may have been to reach the Championship, but don\u2019t for a second believe that Wrexham will be happy to just settle at this level.<\/p>\n

Immediately after sealing promotion, McElhenney set out his aims for more success<\/a> by simply stating that Wrexham are \u2018not done yet\u2019.<\/p>\n

Neil Warnock has assessed Wrexham\u2019s hopes<\/a> by suggesting that Premier League football could be in the club\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

McElhenney and Reynolds would certainly love to take Wrexham to that level, though it may take time and some significant investment.<\/p>\n
