{"id":640568,"date":"2026-03-08T08:50:33","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T08:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/640568\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T08:50:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T08:50:33","slug":"ecologists-alarmed-after-one-of-the-worst-invasive-species-found-in-ancient-australian-rainforest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/640568\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecologists alarmed after \u2018one of the worst invasive\u2019 species found in ancient Australian rainforest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A fire ant nest has been spotted at one of Australia\u2019s most iconic World Heritage rainforests, sparking concerns about the potential threat posed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/california-hiker-airlifted-hospital-being-230854062.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:region\u2019s ecology;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">region\u2019s ecology<\/a> by one of the world\u2019s worst invasive species.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The nest was found and destroyed at a forest clearing at the Lamington National Park on the Queensland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/queensland-nature-rainforest-reef-b2498721.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Gold Coast;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Gold Coast<\/a>, Australia\u2019s Invasive Species Council said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/europe-witnessing-spread-invasive-red-045715509.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Fire ants;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fire ants<\/a> are one of the worst invasive threats to Australia\u2019s wildlife and a failure to eradicate them in south-east Queensland will see them spread across most of the country,\u201d the council\u2019s director Reece Pianta said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The ancient rainforest is world-renowned for its unique biodiversity and deep ecological history, which stretches back to the prehistoric continent of Gondwanaland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cTo find a nest inside one of the world\u2019s most ancient and beautiful rainforests is alarming.
