Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha applauded late-night host Bill Maher\u2019s<\/a> \u201ccraptastically awesome\u201d switch-up on Sen. Adam Schiff<\/a> (D-CA) and the U.S. president\u2019s involvement with foreign conflict.<\/p>\n

Maher read Schiff a statement from \u201cthe administration\u201d that said the president had \u201cthe constitutional authority to direct the use of military force\u201d since he could determine if this was in \u201cthe national interest.\u201d Maher asked Schiff, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump<\/a>, if this statement is \u201ctoo vague,\u201d to which the senator said it\u2019s \u201ctotally vague.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Maher revealed right after that this statement came from former President Barack Obama\u2019s administration about airstrikes on Libya<\/a>, not Trump on his Iran<\/a> strikes. Concha said this \u201ctactic\u201d of simply using a statement and asking people about it is \u201cperfectly fair.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Here\u2019s a statement from the president, what do you think?\u2019 I only wished that Maher let Schiff go on a little bit more, he says, \u2018Far too vague,\u2019 and really let him go for 60 seconds and go off on Trump when it was actually Obama and we\u2019re talking about Libya, which that bombing went on for seven months, by the way, and no Democrats had any problem with no Congressional authority around that,\u201d Concha said on Fox News\u2019s Fox & Friends Weekend, Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow they\u2019re saying you absolutely need it here. It\u2019s hypocrisy with a capital h, in italics, underscore,\u201d Concha said.<\/p>\n

Concha recalled that the late Tim Russert, the former host of NBC\u2019s Meet the Press, would do this \u201call the time,\u201d and ask people about their previous statements and how they\u2019ve changed. Concha said it is \u201ccompletely fair journalism,\u201d but it isn\u2019t used anymore since \u201cno one wants to make any Democrats look bad now.\u201d<\/p>\n

While several prominent Democrats have been critical of Trump\u2019s involvement in Iran, there has also been some caution among Republicans about how it could affect the party\u2019s affordability message in the 2026 elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) told the Washington Examiner that there are \u201ca lot of things that run the risk of undermining affordability,\u201d with Iran being one of them.<\/p>\n

The U.S. death toll in the Iran conflict stands at seven Americans,<\/a> with the first six deaths happening in the conflict\u2019s first days beginning on Feb. 28.<\/p>\n
