Nearly all of New Orleans\u2019 east bank is under a boil water advisory following a large water main break<\/a> that flooded streets and cars along Panola Street and South Carrollton Avenue.<\/p>\n

Parts of Uptown, the Central Business District, the French Quarter, the 9th Ward, Mid-City and Gentilly are affected, Sewerage and Water Board officials said, along with two areas in New Orleans East that were part of a separate advisory.<\/p>\n

Water pressures dropped Monday morning after an extensive water main break in Uptown sent over two feet of water pouring into streets. City officials asked residents to avoid areas bound by South Carrollton Avenue, Burdette Street, South Claiborne Avenue and Hickory Street because of the active public safety incident.<\/p>\n

Residents in the affected areas are advised to use bottled or\u00a0boiled tap\u00a0water\u00a0to drink, cook, clean food or brush teeth until further notice. Residents with compromised immune systems should also use safe\u00a0water\u00a0to wash hands, shower or bathe.\u00a0<\/p>\n
