Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde<\/p>\n
Zakk Wylde<\/a> is currently out on tour doing double duty with both Zakk Sabbath<\/a> and Black Label Society<\/a>. The two bands are sharing the stage on a run of dates<\/a> that kicked off in early March.<\/p>\n But as the former Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> guitarist shares, playing Black Sabbath<\/a> songs with his popular tribute band Zakk Sabbath, has taken on a new tone, now that the heavy metal legend is gone<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s pretty awesome, the people [who are coming to these shows], you know, because they chant Ozzy\u2019s name,\u201d he tells UCR. \u201cThey\u2019re chanting Ozzy\u2019s name at every gig. \u201cSo it\u2019s just a beautiful thing. Ozzy\u2019s energy and his power is there and it\u2019s just a way to celebrate his life and celebrate his greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou realize how many people have so many beautiful memories attached to these songs, and what the music means to them, how it inspires them and and what a beautiful, special place it has in your life,\u201d he continues. So that\u2019s the way I look at all of it, every time. When we\u2019d play Randy Rhoads<\/a>\u2018 stuff live with Ozzy, you\u2019re celebrating Randy\u2019s life and his greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n Zakk\u2019s Sabbath Album Recommendation<\/p>\n It\u2019s possible that there might be some fans coming out to these current shows with Black Label Society and Zakk Sabbath who haven\u2019t heard the music of Black Sabbath yet. Those people need to repent, quickly, and take care of that issue. So where should they dive in?<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, I started with, We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll,\u201d the guitarist says. \u201c[It\u2019s the perfect place to begin, because] that\u2019s their greatest hits, right? I always tell everybody I was Catholic when I put the needle down on the record. Halfway through the album, I became a full-blown Satanist. And by the time the album ended, I converted back to Catholicism, just so I could thank God for creating Black Sabbath. That\u2019s a true story. As fans might be aware, it\u2019s a record which has been process for a while. \u201cUsually whenever we do Black Label albums, it\u2019s always an implosion of ideas. I just always figured you write it and then you\u2019re done,\u201d he explains to UCR. \u201cBut this one, it was like in 2022 the guys came out and we knocked out a whole bunch of ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch Black Label Society\u2019s \u2018Name in Blood\u2019 Video<\/p>\n Subscribe to Ultimate Classic Rock on Youtube<\/a><\/p>\n Though the album wasn\u2019t finished, Wylde found himself busy with a new role: playing guitar<\/a> for Pantera<\/a> \u2014 and the tours kept coming. By the time he finished, he\u2019d written a bunch of new songs. He sees the unexpected passage of time as a benefit. \u201cThere\u2019s a batch of new things that wouldn\u2019t have made it,\u201d he confirms. \u201cI\u2019ve really kind of [enjoyed] putting a song out [and] dropping singles every couple months, every three months, so that everybody gets a chance to digest the album.\u201d<\/p>\n Another Tribute for Ozzy<\/p>\n Engines of Demolition also features a moment of homage to Ozzy and appropriately, it\u2019s the closing track, \u201cOzzy\u2019s Song,\u201d one which is very special to the guitarist. \u201cI wrote the lyrics when we got back, after laying Ozzy to rest and I sat in the library. I just listened to music and I just wrote the lyrics right there,\u201d he shares.
