{"id":643522,"date":"2026-03-09T16:13:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T16:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/643522\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T16:13:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T16:13:13","slug":"justice-department-and-live-nation-settle-over-illegal-monopoly-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/643522\/","title":{"rendered":"Justice Department and Live Nation settle over illegal monopoly case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Justice Department lawyers announced Monday that they\u2019d reached a settlement in their <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/justice-department-live-nation-ticketmaster-antitrust-lawsuit-df9b552d127e1494db13e3cd625787a8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster<\/a> and its parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, in a case that alleged an illegal monopoly over live events in America. But it remained possible that some states might continue a trial on their own.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement by the Justice Department at the start of the trial in federal court in Manhattan was greeted angrily by Judge Arun Subramanian, who said no one informed him of the tentative deal until late Sunday even though a term sheet for a possible settlement was signed on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s entirely unacceptable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Gitlin, a lawyer for the District of Columbia, said the states were requesting a mistrial, although the state of Texas had expressed \u201cserious concerns\u201d about the deal between the U.S. and Live Nation and states have not yet agreed to the deal.<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"AnchorLink\" id=\"ap-audio-justice-department-and-live-nation-reach-settlement-over-illegal-monopoly-case\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n                    AP AUDIO: Justice Department and Live Nation reach settlement over illegal monopoly case\n                <\/p>\n<p class=\"AudioEnhancement-description\">AP Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports on an AP source saying the Justice Department has reached a settlement in an antitrust suit against Ticketmaster and parent company Live Nation.<\/p>\n<p>David Marriott, a lawyer for Live Nation, said the company opposed a mistrial and believed it should proceed.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice and Live Nation didn\u2019t immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for comment.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as the two sides face trial in New York over whether to dismantle the monopoly the Justice Department said was <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/live-nation-ticketmaster-antitrust-trial-ecfd6cb3e77459412584ed002653bc8f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">squelching competition and driving up prices for fans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The case, brought under President <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/joe-biden\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Biden<\/a> \u2018s Democratic administration in 2024, accused Live Nation of using threats, retaliation and other tactics to \u201csuffocate the competition\u201d by controlling virtually every aspect of the industry, from concert promotion to ticketing.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department accused Live Nation of engaging in a slew of practices that have allowed it to maintain a stranglehold over the live music scene.
