Andrew Cuomo will continue to run for mayor after losing the Democratic primary, sources said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo plans to announce his independent run for mayor this week, sources tell NY1.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement is set to come weeks after Cuomo lost the Democratic primary in the race for mayor to Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>After conceding the primary race to Mamdani, Cuomo said he would take time to assess whether he&#8217;d launch a full campaign for mayor after previously securing a spot on an independent ballot line for November.<\/p>\n<p>A source close to the Cuomo campaign said that Cuomo will also call on the Republican and independent candidates in the race to vow to step aside if they&#8217;re not polling well by mid-September to help increase one candidate&#8217;s chances of beating Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks since the primary, Cuomo has privately called supporters to assess the potential strength of an independent run for mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo will be running against Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent candidates Mayor Eric Adams and Jim Walden.<\/p>\n<p>The Adams campaign criticized Cuomo&#8217;s decision to run in November, accusing him of political double-dealing, and also noting &#8220;Andrew Cuomo lost the Democratic primary by double digits.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Former Gov.
