AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 With NASCAR\u2019s spring race at Phoenix Raceway complete, fans are already looking ahead to October, when the Cup Series returns to Avondale. For those planning the trip, the raceway offers several viewing options beyond the traditional grandstand seat.<\/p>\n
Rattlesnake Hill<\/p>\n
One of those options is Rattlesnake Hill, a general area where fans bring canopies, chairs, blankets, grills, food, drinks and pets to watch the race.<\/p>\n
Michael Bergmann has claimed a spot on Rattlesnake Hill for the past 15 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no better seat as far as I\u2019m concerned. I\u2019ve been in the grandstands, but this is where it is for sure,\u201d Bergmann said. \u201cYou can see everything. I mean, you\u2019re limited in the grandstand. I can walk back and forth along my canopies here, and nobody gets after me. So it\u2019s a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
RV row along the back straightaway<\/p>\n
A lineup of motorhomes parked just outside the fence along the back straightaway offers another alternative. Fans watch from the tops of their RVs, with full access to the amenities inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only can you see the whole track, but you\u2019re also at your own motorhome. So you\u2019ve got all the amenities like fresh drinks, snacks, bathroom just a couple steps away. You\u2019ve got it all,\u201d said John Toman, Jr.<\/p>\n
His father, John Toman, Sr., added, \u201cIt\u2019s incredible to be so close to the action. Normally we\u2019re inside the pits, but right here you catch everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
The demand for those spots comes with a cost. There is a 10-year waitlist to secure one of the RV positions.<\/p>\n
Fan Desiree said the elevated view from the motorhome roof adds a physical element to the experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really like to feel the rumble of the cars when they drive by. It feels really cool on top of the motorhome. It\u2019s like it\u2019s shaking your internal chest,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Track roof<\/p>\n
For fans who want an elevated view of the entire race, the roof of the track looks directly down on the finish line.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were down by the pits, down low, not up here. We can see the entire race. It\u2019s awesome,\u201d said PJ Wilson.<\/p>\n
Fan Meg Sliva said the height changes the experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen they go, you just get a better vantage point,\u201d Sliva said.<\/p>\n
