Greene underwent an MRI on Friday after he experienced stiffness in the elbow after his Feb. 28 spring training debut. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and four runs, with one walk, over one inning of work in the Reds’ 9-7 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.<\/p>\n
Greene, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, went 25-29 with a 3.65 ERA through his first four seasons. He was 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA over 19 starts in 2025. He went 9-5 with a career-best 2.75 ERA over 26 starts in 2024 en route to an All-Star selection.<\/p>\n

He missed significant time in 2025 due to groin strains and in 2024 because of elbow issues. The Reds signed Greene to a six-year, $53 million contract extension in 2023.<\/p>\n

The Reds will take on the Colorado Rockies in a spring training game at 4:10 p.m. EDT Tuesday in Scottsdale, Ariz. They will host the Boston Red Sox on opening day at 4:10 p.m. March 26 in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n
Left-handed pitcher Andrew Abbott is to be the Reds’ opening-day starter.<\/p>\n
